Some positive news on the injury front, as outfielders Riley Greene & James Wood have made progress in their recoveries. Plus, the Diamondbacks could get infielder Ketel Marte back in the coming days.
Updates on injured outfielders
Tigers outfielder Riley Greene, recovering from a hamstring strain sustained two weeks ago, started a running program. Per manager A.J. Hinch, Greene has not yet returned to running at full speed.
As for James Wood, who’s recovering from an oblique strain, the Nationals outfielder is now throwing from 120 feet. Additionally, he’s resumed hitting off a tee (h/t Washington Post).
Marte should be back soon
Diamondbacks second baseman Ketel Marte is expected to return next week, per manager Torey Lovullo.
Marte was placed on the injured list last week with a knee injury, days after he left the club and was placed on the restricted list.
IL moves
The Giants placed shortstop Willy Adames on the 10-day IL with a left elbow strain. Additionally, JT Brubaker (bruised ribs) and Victor Bericoto (right knee bone bruise) were also placed on the injured list.
Rockies pitcher Kyle Freeland was placed on the 15-day IL with cervical radiculopathy.
Padres pitcher Lucas Giolito (elbow inflammation) was transferred to the 60-day IL.
Other notes
Athletics catcher Shea Langeliers started a hitting progression program, per the team.
Guardians outfielder Chase DeLauter did not start on August 24 due to left hamstring tightness.
Rockies shortstop Ezequiel Tovar was removed during the club’s game against the Nationals due to a wrist strain.
Marlins reliever Pete Fairbanks was pulled on August 24 due to nerve irritation.
