It’s been a pretty tough season for Cal Raleigh, who’s been beleaguered by slumps and injury during the 2026 season. But on August 24, Raleigh had a much-needed monster day at the plate, as he went deep three times against the Phillies.
Boston comes back to win
The Red Sox defeated the Marlins 4-2 to take the first game in their three-game set.
Miami was up 2-1 heading into the top of the eighth. But a wild pitch from Josh Ekness scored Wilyer Abreu to tie it. Then in the ninth, Anthony Seigler drove in Eli White with an RBI triple to make it 3-2 Boston. Seigler scored off an RBI single from Nick Sogard.
Erik Miller picked up the win for the Red Sox, while Aroldis Chapman earned his 30th save of the season.
Cubs shut out Arizona
The Cubs shut out the Diamondbacks 7-0.
One day after infielder Pedro Ramirez had three hits for the Cubs, the rookie picked up two more on August 24. Ramirez started the scoring with an RBI triple in the second. Michael Conforto then scored both Ramirez and himself with a two-run shot in the sixth. Carson Kelly hit his eighth home run of the season later that inning.
Kevin Gausman struck out six over seven scoreless innings.
Raleigh torches Phillies
Seattle blew out the Phillies 9-2.
The Mariners hit five home runs on the day. One came from Julio Rodriguez, which was his 20th of the season. Cole Young got one, and Cal Raleigh broke out in a big way with a three-home-run game. Two of his three came off Zack Wheeler, who allowed eight earned runs over four innings.
Logan Gilbert picked up his 11th win of the season.
Rangers defeat White Sox
The Rangers re-took the lead in the AL West after defeating the White Sox 11-2 in Chicago.
Texas’ offense had 14 total hits, three of which came from Corey Seager. Former White Sox Jake Burger and Wyatt Langford each had two hits, and both players homered for the Rangers.
Jose Urquidy allowed five earned runs over three innings for Chicago.
Astros move on from Brown
In other related news in the AL West, the Astros announced that the club mutually agreed to part ways with general manager Dana Brown. Brown’s contract was set to expire at the end of the 2026 season.
Brown, a longtime baseball executive and once a college teammate of Astros legend Craig Biggio, took over the role in 2023, after the club won its second World Series title. In his tenure, the Astros won the AL West twice (2023, 2024). However, the Astros missed the playoffs in 2025, the first time that happened since 2016.
Entering August 24, the Astros were tied for first in the AL West.
