One of the Marlins’ best hitters thus far landed on the injured list on June 21. Meanwhile, there were some positive updates for Bobby Witt Jr. and Munetaka Murakami. Plus, an update on Jared Jones after he left on the 21st early.

Jones leaves game

Pirates pitcher Jared Jones was removed from his start in Colorado after he was hit in the elbow by a line drive.

X-rays on Jones’ elbow came back negative.

Updates on injured players

Bobby Witt Jr. didn’t play on June 21, as he missed another game after suffering an MCL sprain. Manager Matt Quatraro indicated that Witt Jr. is feeling better.

White Sox manager Will Venable indicated that Munetaka Murakami has upped the intensity of his baseball activities and is about 80% in his running program (h/t MLB.com).

IL moves

The Marlins placed C/1B Liam Hicks on the 10-day IL with a low back strain, retroactive to June 20.

Rangers pitcher Jack Leiter was placed on the 15-day IL with a right ankle posterior impingement.

Rockies pitcher Blas Castano was placed on the injured list with a pectoral strain.

Josh Ekness (Marlins) and Luis Severino (Athletics) were transferred to the 60-day IL.

Rehab assignments

Reds shortstop Elly De La Cruz went 0-3 with two strikeouts for Triple-A Louisville. De La Cruz played seven innings in the field.

Francisco Lindor and Tyrone Taylor had their rehab assignments transferred to Triple-A Syracuse. Lindor went 0-4 with a walk, while Taylor went 1-3 with two RBI.

Both Lindor and Taylor faced Dean Kremer, who was on rehab for the Orioles with Triple-A Norfolk. Kremer struck out five over 3.2 IP (66 pitches), as he walked two and gave up two hits.

Orioles pitcher Cade Povich struck out three over 3.1 (43 pitches) scoreless innings for Double-A Chesapeake.

Jordan Montgomery tossed a scoreless inning (13 pitches) for Double-A Frisco.

Other notes

Mariners outfielder Dominic Canzone was removed with a hamstring injury on June 21.

Jackson Holliday (groin) and Luke Raley (illness) did not start.
