The Dodgers’ wait for Shohei Ohtani continued on September 5, as the two-way star was out of the club’s lineup again. His former teammate, Mike Trout, had to leave play on the 5th after he was hit by a pitch in Pittsburgh.

Ohtani out again

Despite being tabbed for batting cage work, the Dodgers did not start Shohei Ohtani for the third straight game on September 5.

As of now, Ohtani is not on the injured list. However, should the team have to place him there, it would be backdated due to his past time out.

Trout exits early

Angels outfielder Mike Trout was removed during the ninth inning against the Pirates with a hand injury.

Trout was hit on the hand by a backed-up breaking ball from Yohan Ramirez that hit the outfielder’s left hand.

IL moves

The Yankees placed outfielder Trent Grisham on the 10-day IL with a right hamstring strain.

Rockies infielder Willi Castro, dealing with plantar fasciitis, was officially placed on the injured list with left heel inflammation.

Athletics pitcher J.T. Ginn was placed on the 15-day IL with a right elbow impingement.

One day after he returned from the IL, Jameson Taillon of the Blue Jays went back on the list with right elbow inflammation.

Rays pitcher Garrett Cleavinger was placed on the 15-day IL with left forearm tightness.

Rehab assignments

Cubs reliever Gavin Hollowell pitched one inning for Triple-A Iowa. Hollowell walked two, allowed two hits, and gave up one earned run.

Rangers reliever Robert Garcia struck out two over a scoreless inning.

Diamondbacks pitcher Ryne Nelson struck out two over a scoreless inning for Triple-A Reno.

Other notes

Royals 1B/OF Jac Caglianone was removed versus the Blue Jays due to elbow soreness.

Red Sox outfielder Ceddanne Rafaela (quad) was out of the club’s starting lineup against the Orioles. Guardians outfielder Chase DeLauter (wrist) was also out against the Tigers.
