There was significantly positive news on the injury front, as Konnor Griffin returned from the IL, and Bobby Witt Jr. was back in the Royals’ lineup for the first time in a week. Nonetheless, the injury wheel still turns. Toronto saw one of their regulars exit on the 26th, while the Braves lost setup man Robert Suarez to the IL.
Sanchez removed from game
Blue Jays outfielder Jesús Sanchez was removed from the team’s game on June 26. He was removed after he collided with the left field wall in Rogers Centre on a catch attempt.
Sanchez is dealing with a sprained ankle. X-rays were negative (h/t Sportsnet).
IL moves
Braves reliever Robert Suarez was placed on the 15-day IL with right forearm tightness, retroactive to June 23.
Cubs pitcher Phil Maton was placed on the 15-day IL with right knee tendinitis.
Interim Reds closer Tony Santillan was placed on the IL with a left oblique strain, retroactive to June 23. Per manager Terry Francona, it’s a significant one (h/t Fox 19).
Red Sox infielder Marcelo Mayer was placed on the injured list with a left ulna bone stress reaction.
Giants catcher Daniel Susac was placed on the IL with a low back strain.
Tigers INF/OF Wenceel Perez (left orbital fracture) was transferred to the 60-day IL.
Rehab assignments
Reds reliever Emilio Pagan needed just six pitches to get through a scoreless inning for Triple-A Louisville. He averaged and maxed out at 95 MPH.
Padres infielder Jake Cronenworth went 2-4 with a home run for Triple-A El Paso.
Rangers outfielder Evan Carter went 2-2 with a home run for Double-A Frisco.
Other notes
Dodgers pitcher Blake Snell threw a 15-pitch bullpen session.
Yankees manager Aaron Boone indicated that Giancarlo Stanton has begun workouts, albeit limited ones. Additionally, Trent Grisham took batting practice in Boston (h/t MLB.com).
