Much of the news across MLB on June 26 was focused on who was fired. However, there was still a full slate of games across the league. Philadelphia, Cincinnati, and the Red Sox were among the winners on the day. Plus, the White Sox’s offense had a grand day on the South Side.

Mets take first loss under Green

The Mets lost 2-1 on June 26, the first game under interim manager Andy Green. The former Padres manager, who played for the Mets in 2009 and was in the Mets’ front office beforehand, took over from Carlos Mendoza. Mendoza, the longest-tenured Mets manager since Terry Collins, spent two and a half seasons with the club before his dismissal.

Yet again, Zack Wheeler kept the Mets’ bats quiet. Wheeler nearly gave up a two-run home run to Juan Soto in the first but Derek Hill brought it back. All in all, Wheeler struck out five over seven innings and only allowed one run.

Bryce Harper and Trea Turner had RBIs in the win.

White Sox score 22

Yes, you’re reading that correctly. The White Sox scored 22 runs against the Royals, handily defeating Chicago’s rival in the AL Central.

Mitch Spence had a very difficult day, as he conceded eight hits and 10 earned runs over 1.1 IP after he came in out of the bullpen. And the scoring didn’t stop there, as Beck Way, John Schreiber, Alex Lange, and Daniel Lynch IV all gave up at least one run in relief after Spence departed the contest.

Every starter, aside from Colson Montgomery, had at least two hits. Miguel Vargas, Andrew Benintendi, Jacob Gonzalez, Tristan Peters, and Kyle Teel all hit home runs.

Angels lose after GM firing

Mendoza wasn’t the only notable figure to be axed on the 26th. The Angels parted ways with GM Perry Minasian and replaced him with now-interim John Mozeliak. Mozeliak was in charge of the Cardinals’ front office for nearly two full decades before he left after the 2025 campaign.

However, the Angels lost 9-3 to the A’s.

This time around, J.T. Ginn picked up a win in Angel Stadium. After Ginn nearly threw a no-hitter a month ago, he allowed just three earned runs in six innings. Walbert Urena was tagged for seven runs in 4.1 IP.

Reds get to Skenes

Paul Skenes struck out seven against the Reds. However, he conceded six hits and four earned runs, and the Pirates lost to Cincinnati 6-4.

Noelvi Marte‘s pinch-hit home run off Mason Montgomery in the eighth was the difference-maker.

Red Sox beat Yankees

Payton Tolle struck out seven over seven scoreless innings to help the Red Sox defeat the Yankees 6-1.

Willson Contreras was in the middle of it. Contreras was nearky hit by a pitch by Will Warren, which he took exception to and caused the benches to clear. But on top of that, Contreras had two hits, one of which was his 17th home run of 2026.
