Bobby Witt Jr. became the latest Royal to suffer an injury, as he was forced out early on June 7. Plus, some notable names across Major League Baseball remained out. And Tarik Skubal made his first rehab start since elbow surgery.

Witt Jr. leaves game

The Royals took some losses this past weekend on the injury front. Salvador Perez missed two games with a thumb injury. Jac Caglianone left on June 6, and on the 7th, Bobby Witt Jr. left with a sore right knee.

Witt Jr. is scheduled to have his knee re-evaluated. Manager Matt Quataro stated that it was something that became progressively worse throughout the game but there was “nothing acute.”

Absences

Dodgers catcher Will Smith (neck) was out for the second straight game against the Angels.

Blue Jays outfielder Daulton Varsho (wrist) sat out against the Orioles.

Rays outfielder Chandler Simpson (thumb) was out.

Twins outfielder Byron Buxton (shoulder) did not play on June 7. Michael Harris II (back) did not start but did pinch-hit against the Pirates.

Speaking of the Pirates, Brandon Lowe (knee) did not play against the Braves. He took a ball to the kneecap one day earlier. A CT scan didn’t reveal a significant injury (h/t MLB.com).

IL moves

The Angels placed pitcher Jack Kochanowicz on the 15-day IL with right elbow inflammation.

Rhett Lowder was activated from the IL.

Rehab assignments

Two notable rehabbers were in High-A on June 7, and one of those was reigning AL Cy Young winner Tarik Skubal.

Skubal struck out six over five scoreless innings (54 pitches) for High-A West Michigan. The lefty had a Whiff% of 45.7% in that game. Per the Whitecaps’ broadcast, Skubal was in the 97-99 MPH range with his fastball.

Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh, meanwhile, went 1-3 with a strikeout for Everett. Raleigh was the DH for the Aquasox.

Other notes

Cubs pitcher Jameson Taillon left his start on June 7 with a hamstring strain (h/t 670 The Score).

Dylan Cease and Max Schezer both threw side sessions on June 7 in Toronto.
