The Dodgers and Rays both have strong pitching staffs, and that was on full display in the two teams’ contest on June 16. Meanwhile, in the Nation’s Capital, the Nationals continue to win.
Dodgers take down Rays
All the Dodgers needed was one run to defeat the Rays, 1-0.
Drew Rasmussen and Justin Wrobleski both pitched very well. Rasmussen struck out seven over seven frames, while Wrobleski tossed six scoreless innings.
The lone run of the game was delivered by Shohei Ohtani, who hit a solo shot in the sixth.
Nationals defeat Royals
Despite a hiccup from the Nationals’ bullpen, Washington won 6-4 over the Royals to pick up their fourth consecutive victory.
Foster Griffin pitched well enough to win, as he only gave up one earned run over six innings. However, Kansas City’s Isaac Collins tied the game with a two-run single in the seventh.
A three-run shot from Curtis Mead gave the Nationals a 6-3 lead.
Yankees, Twins each put up 12
Both the Yankees and Twins scored 12 runs in victories.
It was a big night for several players from the Twins. Trevor Larnach had four hits, one of which was a home run. Kody Clemens, Josh Bell, Brooks Lee, and Luke Keaschall had two hits, while Alex Jackson picked up three.
As for the Yankees, New York put up nine on Davis Martin, who was vying to be the first pitcher in the Majors to get to 10 wins this season. However, the Yankees’ bats got to him, as he conceded three home runs, one each to Spencer Jones, Ben Rice, and Paul Goldschmidt.
Gerrit Cole allowed two runs and struck out six over six innings.
Ashby first to 10 wins
Aaron Ashby became the first MLB pitcher to win 10 games this season, as the Brewers reliever picked up the winning decision against the Guardians in a 2-1 victory for Milwaukee.
Ashby picked up a blown save beforehand, as he walked two and conceded a Gabriel Arias RBI single to tie the game in the seventh.
But later on that inning, Garrett Mitchell hit his fifth home run of the year to break the tie.
Jays win, Springer hits 300th
The Blue Jays won 6-1 on a big night for Dylan Cease and a milestone night for George Springer.
Four of Toronto’s six runs were scored off the long ball. Andres Gimenez and Davis Schneider went back-to-back off Payton Tolle in the fifth. And in the ninth, Connecticut native George Springer hit a two-run home run off Ryan Watson for his 300th career MLB long ball.
Dylan Cease was excellent, as he struck out seven over five scoreless innings.
