The bats were hot for several teams across Major League Baseball on June 17. The Marlins, Giants, Pirates, and Yankees were among the teams to have blowout wins on the day. Plus, the Jays picked up another win in Boston.
Giants beat Braves twice
Thanks to a suspended contest on the 16th due to rain, the Giants and Braves had to play nearly the equivalent of two contests. And the Giants won both contests.
In the first game, Robbie Ray struck out eight over 6.1 IP of technical relief, while Jung Hoo Lee, Rafael Devers, and Willy Adames all went deep. The Giants won Game 1, 7-2.
As for the second game, the Giants took that one, as well, by a score of 7-5. Willy Adames, Luis Arraez, and Bryce Eldridge all went deep in the second off JR Ritchie, while Carson Whisenhunt pitched well enough over five innings to secure his first MLB victory of 2026.
Big night for Pirates
The Pirates will exit Sacramento with a 38-37 record, as Pittsburgh defeated the Athletics 12-4.
Pittsburgh chased Aaron Civale after three innings, as the A’s starter conceded six earned runs and nine hits over three innings. That Pirates lineup, by the way, had six players pick up multi-hit games. Ryan O’Hearn was one, as he had three hits, one of which was a home run.
Braxton Ashcraft struck out seven over six innings to pick up his sixth win of 2026.
Marlins blow out Phillies
Five Marlins home runs and 13 total hits were more than enough to push the Marlins to a 12-4 victory.
Kyle Stowers went deep twice, while Jakob Marsee and rookies Owen Caissie and Joe Mack each hit one. Sandy Alcantara struck out six over six innings to secure his seventh victory of the 2026 season.
Jays shut out Red Sox
Thanks to a back injury to Max Scherzer, the Blue Jays had to piece together a game against Boston. Toronto’s pitching staff did just that, as the Jays won 3-0 over the Red Sox.
Simeon Woods Richardson received his first win as a Blue Jay, as the righty navigated around three walks to throw three scoreless frames. Toronto used seven pitchers in total to cover the nine innings.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Andres Gimenez each had two hits. Gimenez had three stolen bases.
Yankees extend AL East lead
Thanks to a loss for Tampa Bay earlier in the day, the Yankees had a chance to extend their lead in the AL East. The Yankees did just that, as New York defeated the Chicago White Sox 11-5.
Thirteen hits and three home runs for the Yankees, plus seven strikeouts for Carlos Rodon. With that victory, the Yankees are now 3.5 games ahead of the Rays for first in the AL East.
