Given that only five games were scheduled for September 10, the number of transactions on the day was limited. But there were some moves, highlighted by Anthony Volpe’s return to the Yankees.

Volpe brought back up

The Yankees recalled shortstop Anthony Volpe from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on September 10. It was done to add an extra infielder to the Yankees’ roster, after Jazz Chisholm Jr. went on the IL as expected.

Volpe comes up as a hot hitter, as the 25-year-old is coming off a great week down in Triple-A and performed very well over the last month, as noted by us earlier this week.

It’s also worth a reminder that Volpe’s received work at second, third, and short this season with the Railriders, as George Lombard Jr. — despite some hiccups at short — has taken charge as the everyday shortstop in The Bronx.

Nationals promote Pinckney

The Nationals recalled outfielder Andrew Pinckney from Triple-A Rochester. Pinckney replaces Nasim Nunez, who was moved to the bereavement list.

Pinckney’s first run at the MLB level didn’t go too badly. After hitting 14 home runs with the Red Wings this season, Pinckney slashed .273/.320/.500 with a home run and two extra-base hits over 13 games. He did only 25 plate appearances over 13 contests.

Kelly moved back to Pirates

The Pirates recalled pitcher Antwone Kelly from Triple-A Indianapolis.

Kelly replaces Braxton Ashcraft, who was placed on the injured list. The right-hander pitched in four games with the Pirates as of September 10.
