It was a big day in Toronto, as former franchise stalwart Bo Bichette made his return to the city that he called home for many years. Plus, the Pirates picked up a big comeback win in Philadelphia against the Phillies.
Jays snap six-game losing streak
Toronto snapped a six-game losing streak as the Jays defeated the Mets 2-1.
Bo Bichette made his return to Toronto, the organization that drafted him and where he played from 2019-25. He went 0-4 in the game.
The Blue Jays started the scoring in the first, as George Springer scored on a little league home run, after Juan Soto failed to secure a line drive and A.J. Ewing committed an error. A Myles Straw sac fly was the difference in this one.
It was yet another one-run loss for the Mets, who fell to 35-50 on the season.
Pirates score six in fifth to pull ahead
Despite a 5-0 lead after three, the Phillies lost to the Pirates 11-5 in the second round of the Keystone State series.
Esmerlyn Valdez and Jared Triolo hit home runs in the fourth & fifth, respectively, to cut the Phillies’ lead to two. Triolo’s home run helped set the stage for a six-run inning, highlighted by a Trea Turner throwing error that scored two for the Bucs.
Muncy vs. Muncy
Max Muncy of the Dodgers played a very important role on June 29, helping Los Angeles take down the Athletics and the other Max Muncy 9-4.
The Dodgers’ Muncy had two hits, one of which was a home run off lefty Gage Jump. Jump was hit around by the Dodgers, as he conceded 11 hits and allowed five earned runs over 4.2 IP.
Every starter for Los Angeles had at least one hit, and everyone except Mookie Betts had two in the game.
As for the A’s, Colby Thomas had two hits, one of which was a home run off winning starter Eric Lauer. Joshua Kuroda-Grauer, who made his MLB debut after he was promoted to the Majors on the 29th, had three hits in his first game.
