There was a lot of action on July 7, to say the least. Aside from the Brewers-Cardinals’ doubleheader, two players put records in danger on July 7.

Brewers sweep DH in St. Louis

The Brewers took both games of a doubleheader against the Cardinals on July 7, necessitated by a rainout in May.

Milwaukee won the first game 4-3, a start that saw Jacob Misiorowski strike out 11 over seven innings. Misiorowski surrendered home runs to Jordan Walker and Ivan Herrera but the offense got him enough production. A Christian Yelich double in the seventh gave the Brewers a 4-3 lead.

In the second game, it wasn’t close. St. Louis had just four hits in a 10-2 loss. Cooper Pratt and Joey Ortiz had two hits; one of those was a home run for Ortiz. Luis Lara, who made his MLB debut in the nightcap, went 1-2 with two RBI.

O’Hearn drove in a franchise-record 10

Paul Skenes snapped a lengthy stretch without a win, as he struck four over six innings in a 12-4 victory over the Braves. But the real story was Ryan O’Hearn.

O’Hearn had 10 RBI, setting not just a career-high but a franchise-high, as well. All were off home runs. He hit a grand slam in the first, followed by two three-run shots, the second of which came in the sixth inning.

Tolbert tied an MLB record in Royals’ win

The Royals and Mets combined for 28 runs, as Kansas City had another explosive day on offense. Kansas City won 16-12 over the Mets.

This game got off to a wild start, as three errors on one play in the first resulted in a Carson Benge Little League home run and three runs for the Mets. From there, it was a back-and-forth affair, highlighted by home runs from Juan Soto and A.J. Ewing from the Mets and shots from Tyler Tolbert and Nick Loftin on the winning side.

Tolbert, in particular, was the focus. He had a second-straight five-hit game and an infield single during a seven-run seventh inning for the Royals, which gave him a tie for the most hits in consecutive at-bats (12) in MLB history.

Marlins win 50th of 2026

A three-run seventh for the Mariners spoiled Max Meyer‘s chance at another win. But the Marlins were able to walk it off in the 10th, as Miami notched win #50 on the season.

Meyer pitched well enough to win. However, Calvin Faucher gave up two runs in the eighth and was charged with a blown save. Later on in that inning, Heriberto Hernandez tied the game with a solo shot.

Then, in extras, Jakob Marsee drove in the game-winning run in the 10th.

Ohtani hits 300th home run

The Rockies won 4-3 to take the second game in their series with the Dodgers.

Shohei Ohtani hit his 300th career home run, which was also his 20th home run of the season. Aside from Ohtani, Alex Freeland had a three-hit day, while Freddie Freeman had two.

But it was the small ball that won it for the Rockies. Jake McCarthy picked up two RBI without even recording a hit. His sac bunt in the eighth drove in the game-winning run.
