Much of the action across MLB on August 10 took place during the late hours on the East Coast. For those who missed, the Diamondbacks and Padres won to keep up with one another. Meanwhile, in Toronto, the Blue Jays were able to deal another loss to the Red Sox.
Arizona cruises to win
The Diamondbacks won 9-0 in the first game of their series with the Rockies.
Nolan Arenado torched his old team with a grand slam in the first, his 19th overall home run of the season. Corbin Carroll, Ketel Marte, Gabriel Moreno, and Jorge Barrosa all picked up RBIs, while a wild pitch from starter Gabriel Hughes scored Geraldo Perdomo in the third.
Michael Soroka struck out four over 4.1 scoreless innings in his return from the injured list. Zack Littell, signed by the club on August 11, finished out the game to pick up his first win as a Diamondback.
Padres pick up major win
The Padres, fighting the Diamondbacks for a playoff spot, kept pace with a 3-2 win over the Brewers.
Milwaukee jumped out to a 2-0 lead thanks to a Christian Yelich two-run home run in the first. But Casey Mize didn’t allow any more damage on the day, ending with six strikeouts and two earned runs over six innings.
Ty France cut the lead with a solo shot in the second inning. Later on, Jackson Merrill continued his hot second half with a two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh to make it 3-2.
Blue Jays snatch win versus Boston
Toronto’s bullpen logged five innings and only allowed one run, allowing the Blue Jays to beat Sonny Gray and the Red Sox 2-1.
Charles McAdoo, coming off a hot week in the Minors, was recalled on August 11 and hit a home run in his first game back. That made it 1-0 Toronto in the fifth. One inning later, Andres Gimenez drove in George Springer to make it 2-0.
The lone run scored by Boston came off a bizarre double-play that resulted in Anthony Seigler scoring on a sacrifice fly. Because of a timing rule in which Seigler crossed home plate before the second out was recorded, and Toronto not making a second appeal at third, the run stood.
