Whenever you go to an MLB game, there’s always a chance of seeing something extraordinary. That was indeed the case on August 18, as Fernando Tatis Jr. had a heroic performance against the Mets. The Brewers, meanwhile, did something not seen since the 19th century.
Brewers score 22, shutout Mariners
The Milwaukee Brewers won 22-0 over the Seattle Mariners, marking the first time a score of that nature happened since 1888.
Much of the Brewers’ damage came in the eighth, as infielder Leo Rivas allowed nine runs in mop-up duty. Among the highlights from that inning was Luis Lara‘s first MLB home run, a three-run shot. However, the game was wrapped up at that point.
Milwaukee’s lineup had its way with Bryce Miller and Josh Simpson, who combined to allow 11 earned runs, including three home runs. Christian Yelich belted a three-run shot off Miller in the fifth, while David Hamilton and Jake Bauers hit homers off Simpson.
Kyle Harrison struck out eight over five scoreless innings.
Tatis Jr. show lights up Queens
That headline is not hyperbole.
The Padres won 5-1 against the Mets, thanks in large part to Fernando Tatis Jr. Tatis Jr. led off the game with a solo home run off Zac Thornton. Then in the bottom of the first, the former Platinum Glove winner jumped off the right-field wall in Citi Field to rob Francisco Lindor of a grand slam.
Tatis Jr. would hit another home run in the fifth, a two-run shot to make it 3-0. San Diego scored two more runs, one off a Ty France single in the seventh, and Manny Machado‘s 24th home run in the ninth.
Robbie Ray won his 11th game of 2026. The lefty allowed just one run in six innings.
Pirates sharp behind Ashcraft
Braxton Ashcraft allowed just one run over eight innings, keeping the Tigers at bay in a 4-1 win for the Pirates.
Detroit started the scoring courtesy of Brett Callahan‘s first career Major League home run. But the Pirates took the lead in the sixth, as Oneil Cruz hit a two-run shot for his 15th home run of the season. Spencer Horwitz picked up an RBI single later that inning to make it 3-1.
Ashcraft won his 13th game of the year, while Mason Montgomery tossed a scoreless ninth for his fifth save of the season.
Rangers shut out Angels
Cal Quantrill struck out five over seven scoreless innings, helping the Rangers win 5-0 and pick up ground in the AL West title race.
Wyatt Langford, Brandon Nimmo, Corey Seager, and Cody Freeman each had two hits. Justin Foscue hit his eighth home run of the year.
Ohtani hits 30th home run of 2026
The Dodgers won yet again at Coors Field, taking a 7-6 game in Denver.
Shohei Ohtani made it 3-1 in the third with a two-run shot, his 30th home run of the season. However, Colorado clawed the game back, as RBI doubles from TJ Rumfield and Connor Norby tied it in the third.
Kyle Tucker and Teoscar Hernandez each had RBI doubles of their own in the fourth to make it 5-3. Freddie Freeman wound up driving in the final two runs, one from a sac fly in the fourth and the other via an RBI single in the sixth.
