It’s a weekend of returns across Major League Baseball. Luis Robert Jr. returned to Chicago for the first time since he was traded, while Rafael Devers was in Fenway Park to play his first game in Boston after being dealt in June 2025. Aside from those storylines, two first-place teams started their series in Milwaukee.

Devers returns to Fenway

On a big night in Fenway Park, the Red Sox defeated the Giants 6-4 to begin the two teams’ three-game series.

Boston had a nice cushion after three, as the Red Sox were up 5-1 thanks to a five-run inning. Willson Contreras hit a three-run home run, while Andruw Monasterio (walk) and Mickey Gasper (HBP) drove in runs without needing a hit with the bases loaded.

The Giants came back in the fourth. Drew Gilbert hit a two-run home run off Sonny Gray to make it 5-3. The next batter, Rafael Devers, took Gray deep to dead-center to hit his first home run in Fenway since his last game as a Red Sox. It was Devers’ first game in Boston since the trade.

Still, Gray struck out six over six innings to pick up his 16th win of the season.

Miz, Brewers defeat Braves

The lone day game on August 21 featured two likely NL Cy Young finalists, Chris Sale & Jacob Misiorowski, squaring off. The two combined for 12 strikeouts over 12 innings. But it was Misiorowski and the Brewers who came out on top, giving the NL Central leaders their 80th win of the year.

Milwaukee won 2-1 on a light-scoring day. Both of the Brewers’ runs came in the third. William Contreras drove in one with an RBI single, which was one of four hits that the Brewers’ catcher had. A force out off a ball hit by Andrew Vaughn drove in Jackson Chourio for the game-winning run.

Michael Harris II cut the lead to one with an RBI single in the eighth.

Phillies win in extras

Alec Bohm‘s third hit of the game in the tenth inning drove in two runs for the Phillies, who won 7-6 in extras over the Cardinals.

The Cardinals hit two home runs in this one, as Joshua Baez hit a two-run shot in the first off Jesús Luzardo. Jordan Walker, back in Philly after winning the Home Run Derby, also hit a home run off Luzardo. That was Walker’s 27th home run of the season.

J.T. Realmuto and Brandon Marsh each had two hits for the Phillies, while Luis Arraez had three.

Yankees defeat Blue Jays

Cam Schlittler allowed just one run against the Blue Jays, helping New York defeat Toronto 3-1.

Spencer Jones was responsible for two of the Yankees’ runs, courtesy of a two-run shot he hit off Spencer Arrighetti. Arrighetti, in his first game as a Blue Jay, struck out four but allowed three runs over 3.1 IP of bulk relief. He was also responsible for a sac fly from Jose Caballero that drove in George Lombard Jr. in the fourth.

E-Rod sharp versus Reds

Eduardo Rodriguez struck out four over 5.2 scoreless innings, helping the Diamondbacks shut out the Reds 9-0 at home.

It wasn’t a good day for Nick Lodolo, who allowed six runs and 10 hits over 3.1 IP.

Five Diamondbacks had multi-hit games. Geraldo Perdomo and Jordan Lawlar each had three hits. Lawlar hit his second home run of the season.
