Milwaukee moved one step closer to their first World Series berth in over 30 years, as the Brewers won again on October 12. Meanwhile, in Florida, the ALCS got underway, and the Guardians’ winning ways on the road continued.
Brewers take 2-0 lead
The Brewers defeated the Dodgers 7-4 to win Game 2 of the 2026 NLCS, moving Milwaukee to a 2-0 lead before going to Dodger Stadium.
Neither starter went long in this one. Logan Henderson went four and allowed four runs, two of them unearned. However, those unearned runs were on the young right-hander, as two throwing errors scored two for Los Angeles. Yoshinobu Yamamoto, meanwhile, couldn’t go three innings for the Dodgers.
Down 4-3 in the fifth, William Contreras tied the game with a solo home run off Kris Bubic. It was Contreras’ third home run of the playoffs, and one of his three RBIs on the day. In the sixth, Contreras got out on front on a pitch from Brock Stewart that led to an RBI single, scoring the eventual game-winning run.
Yet again, the Brewers’ bullpen had a stellar day. Milwaukee pitchers went five scoreless frames. Aaron Ashby locked down a save after he nailed the final five outs of the game.
Cleveland came back to win Game 1
The Guardians won Game 1 of the 2026 ALCS by a score of 7-3, taking an early lead in the series.
Junior Caminero and Jonny DeLuca each had RBI singles in the first to give Tampa Bay an early 2-0 lead. Cleveland cut the lead in half when Chase DeLauter hit a solo blast in the sixth. One inning later, Patrick Bailey chased Drew Rasmussen with another solo home run.
Cleveland took a lead in the eighth when ex-Ray Nathaniel Lowe poked a two-run single to center, giving the Guardians a 4-3 advantage. Cedric Mullins then cut the Guardians’ lead in the eighth with a solo home run.
But in the ninth, Cleveland took a stranglehold when Jose Ramirez and Jo Adell each had two-RBI hits to seal it.
It’s the fourth straight win for the Guardians. As for the Rays, it was their first overall loss of the postseason.
What’s ahead?
The NLCS will have a travel day on October 13. That series will resume on October 14 in Los Angeles. As for the ALCS, the Rays will have a chance to even the series at home on the 13th.
Parker Messick of the Guardians will face Rays pitcher Freddy Peralta.
