It’s been a difficult start to the 2026 campaign for the Mets and Phillies. Both teams continued that trend on the 19th. New York (NL) lost their 11th game in a row, while the Phillies dropped another game to the Braves, who are gaining separation in the NL East.

Cubs win in extras

In what was a day for the pitchers, the Cubs won 2-1 and swept the Mets out of Wrigley.

Mets outfielder MJ Melendez got the scoring started with a solo home run. However, it was the former Mets first-rounders who spoiled the game for New York. Michael Conforto picked up a pinch-hit RBI double off Mets closer Devin Williams. And in the 10th, a sacrifice fly from Nico Hoerner scored Pete Crow-Armstrong.

The Mets, meanwhile, return home to Queens on an 11-game losing streak. New York (NL) is eight games out of the division before the calendar hit April 20.

Phillies swept by Atlanta

The Braves defeated the Phillies 4-2 on April 19 to sweep the weekend series. Philadelphia is on a five-game losing streak.

Philadelphia picked up a lead early. But in the fifth, a fielder’s choice by Matt Olson scored a run. Hits from Austin Riley and Ozzie Albies drove in runs later that inning.

Atlanta’s bullpen didn’t give up a run over 5.1 IP.

Weathers, Yankees dominant

The Yankees won 7-0 in a dominant victory after a three-hour rain delay.

Aaron Judge hit his ninth home run in the first. Trent Grisham and Ben Rice also homered in the affair. Ryan Weathers (32.6% Whiff%) struck out eight over 7.1 scoreless innings to pick up his first victory as a Yankee.

Kansas City’s pitching had its problems over the weekend, first with Noah Cameron, and on the 19th, with Cole Ragans. Ragans walked eight batters and surrendered three home runs, two to left-handed hitters.

Not to mention, Vinnie Pasquantino and Salvador Perez, both of whom have struggled this season, combined to go 0-8 with four strikeouts.

The Royals are now 7-15, tied for the worst record in the Majors alongside the Mets.

Nationals shut out Giants

Three Nationals pitchers combined to shut out the Giants 3-0.

Miles Mikolas tossed four scoreless innings and struck out four after coming in relief of P.J. Poulin, the opener for the Nats. Andrew Alvarez, who was just promoted to the Majors after a dominant run in Rochester, struck out five over 4.1 IP to secure the win.

Robbie Ray (24.5% Whiff%) struck out seven over six innings. He gave up three extra-base hits, one of which was a home run from Curtis Mead.

Guards beat O’s

The Guardians finished their four-game series with the Orioles on April 19. Cleveland took the final game 8-4.

This game didn’t feature a dominant pitching performance, unlike in the opener, although Joey Cantillo and Trevor Rogers both pitched well early on. However, Rogers, who finished the day with 25 called strikes (second-most on the day), gave up a home run to Jose Ramirez in the fourth, followed by a two-run double to Juan Brito.

Cantillo tossed four scoreless but also got in trouble. A three-run home run by Taylor Ward in the fifth put him in trouble. The lefty did not finish the fifth but the bullpen did its job. Cleveland relievers didn’t give up an earned run in the outing.
