After a wild World Series last October and November, the Dodgers and Blue Jays were able to renew acquaintances again on April 6. The reigning AL and NL champions were in Toronto for a World Series rematch, the marquee matchup on what was a busy Monday across Major League Baseball.

Rays beat Cubs in Tropicana Field

The Tampa Bay Rays won on April 6, defeating the Cubs 6-4 in the team’s home opener. It marked the first game at The Trop since 2024. The Rays played all of their home games in 2025 at Steinbrenner Field, thanks to damage sustained in the team’s home ballpark from Hurricane Milton.

Nico Hoerner drove in two to get the scoring going on the day. However, Cedric Mullins hit a two-run home run in the second to tie the game, which wound up being the first of three Rays home runs. Junior Caminero and Jonathan Aranda both hit home runs, as well.

Kevin Kelly received the win, as he pitched a scoreless fifth after Shane McClanahan went four innings.

Dodgers win World Series rematch

The Dodgers defeated the Blue Jays 14-2 on April 6 in the first of three games that the two 2025 World Series combatants will play this week.

Los Angeles had the lead in this game from the onset. Former Blue Jay Teoscar Hernandez hit a home run in the first, and then Freddie Freeman added one in the third. Shohei Ohtani and Dalton Rushing (two) also hit home runs in the blowout victory.

Justin Wrobleski (15.6% Whiff%) walked four and only struck out two batters. However, he pitched through five to notch the win.

Red Sox continue skid

Boston lost another contest on the 6th. The Red Sox fell to the Brewers 8-6 to fall to 2-8.

Aaron Ashby picked up his third win of the season in relief. Garrett Mitchell and Sal Frelick each had two hits, while Christian Yelich had three for the Brewers.

This game got chippy at one point. Willson Contreras was visibly upset after he was hit by a pitch from Brandon Woodruff. Shortly thereafter, he slid into David Hamilton at second base, shaking up the now-Brewers infielder.

It was also another enigmatic game from Brayan Bello. Much like in his first 2026 start, Bello elicited a lot of swing-and-miss (47.2% Whiff%). In fact, his 17 whiffs were the most in the Majors on the day. However, he danced around the strike zone a lot, as he walked four and didn’t make it through the fourth.

Padres shut out Pirates

San Diego shut out the Pittsburgh Pirates 5-0.

Bubba Chandler (30.6% Whiff%) walked four in the loss. As for the Padres, German Marquez tossed five scoreless innings in his first win with the team.

Xander Bogaerts, Nick Castellanos, Jake Cronenworth, and Freddy Fermin all had multi-hit games for San Diego.

Orioles stymie White Sox

The Orioles, after a sweep at the hands of the Pirates this past weekend, defeated the White Sox 2-1.

Gunnar Henderson hit his third home run of the season in the sixth, which wound up being the game-winning run. Brandon Young, just recalled from the Minors, threw five scoreless innings in the victory.

Other notes

James Wood, Brady House, and CJ Abrams all hit home runs in the eighth inning for the Nationals, who won 9-6 over the Cardinals.

Michael Wacha threw seven strong innings to help the Royals defeat the Guardians 4-2.

Brandon Williamson and the Reds shut out the Marlins 2-0. Tyler Stephenson hit his second home run of the season.

Jose Soriano (31.3% Whiff%) pitched well again for the Angels, as he struck out 10 over eight innings against the Braves. Zach Neto and Jo Adell hit home runs off Chris Sale, who was knocked out in the fifth by the Angels. Los Angeles won 6-2.

Colorado defeated the Astros 9-7. Ryan Feltner gave up five balls considered barreled up by the Astros on the day and conceded four runs. He did get the win, though, as Colorado’s offense picked up 12 hits on the day.

Joe Ryan struck out seven to help the Twins win 7-3 on a cold night in Minneapolis.

The Rangers defeated the Mariners 2-1. Seattle’s lone run came from Cal Raleigh, who hit the first home run of his 2026 season in the first inning.

Phiadelphia came from behind to beat the Giants 6-4.
