Heading into the new week, the American League has a new top team. The Rays now have the best record in the AL, as Tampa Bay finished off a series win against the Red Sox, while the Yankees fell again in Milwaukee.

Brewers sweep Yankees

The Brewers completed a three-game sweep of the Yankees thanks to a Brice Turang walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth.

Aaron Judge hit a solo home run in the first, and then Spencer Jones drove in his first career run off his first career MLB hit to make it 2-0. However, the Brewers saw Garrett Mitchell and Blake Perkins come through off Carlos Rodon in the fourth to give the team the lead (temporarily).

A Jazz Chisholm Jr. double drove in Cody Bellinger in the sixth, tying the game until it ended.

Rays beat Red Sox again

Yet again, the Rays’ pitching came through.

Nick Martinez only allowed one run over 5.2 IP before the bullpen threw shutout ball for the team, as Tampa Bay won 4-1. Junior Caminero hit his 11th home run of the year in the win against Boston.

With that victory and the Yankees’ loss, Tampa Bay took sole control of first place. The Rays are now one game ahead of the Yankees.

Rangers win behind deGrom

The Cubs were only able to muster three hits off Jacob deGrom, who struck out 10 over seven scoreless innings to win his third game of the year.

deGrom lowered his ERA to 2.62. And in the process, he also joined some pretty impressive company. The righty became the second-fastest pitcher in MLB history to reach 1.900 career strikeouts. In terms of games, only Randy Johnson accomplished the feat quicker.

Evan Carter hit his fifth home run of the season off Daniel Palencia in the eight.
