Fans in San Diego were treated well (or not well, depending on how one looks at things) when it came to baseball dominance on May 20. Shohei Ohtani was the two-way shot for the Dodgers, who bested the Padres again. Meanwhile, the Brewers picked up yet another win against the Chicago Cubs.
Dodgers win on back of Ohtani
Shohei Ohtani seemingly did it all for the Dodgers, who won 4-0 over the San Diego Padres.
Ohtani went 1-4 with a walk at the plate. His lone hit was a lead-off shot off Randy Vazquez, who went 4.1 IP for the Padres. The Dodgers gave Ohtani, who was starting for the team, more run support, highlighted by two RBI from Teoscar Hernandez. However, Ohtani didn’t need it.
He struck out four over five scoreless innings before the Los Angeles bullpen tossed four scoreless to finish the contest. Ohtani now has a .73 ERA.
With that victory, the Dodgers moved into a one-and-a-half game lead over the Padres for the NL West division lead.
Yesavage outduels Schlittler
Trey Yesavage and the Blue Jays defeated Cam Schlittler and the Yankees 2-1.
Schlittler (26% Whiff%), who topped out at 100 MPH in the outing, struck out seven and gave up two earned runs in the outing. But it was Yesavage (26% Whiff%) who came out on top with eight strikeouts over six shutout innings.
Andres Gimenez and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. drove in both runs for the Blue Jays.
Brewers sweep Cubs
After taking down the Cubs in the playoffs last year, the Brewers finished off a sweep of Chicago in Wrigley during their first series of 2026. Milwaukee shut out the Cubs, 5-0.
Kyle Harrison, acquired in the winter, had yet another impressive performance. Harrison (41% Whiff%) struck out 11 over seven scoreless innings, improving his stellar ERA to 1.77.
William Contreras picked up three hits, while a David Hamilton triple, coupled with an error from the Cubs, scored three in the second.
The Brewers moved to 29-18. Milwaukee has a one-and-a-half game lead over both the Cubs and Cardinals.
Reds take series
The Reds took two of three in Philadelphia, as Cincinnati finished up on May 20 with a 9-4 victory over the Phillies.
Yet again, Sal Stewart was a force, as he picked up four hits for the Reds. One of those was a home run off Jose Alvarado, his 12th of 2026.
Aaron Nola, meanwhile, still can’t buy a break. Nola gave up eight hits over five innings and conceded four runs. The Phillies’ right-hander currently has an ERA of 6.04.
Guardians win again
A triple from Angel Martinez, followed up by a Jose Ramirez double, helped the Guardians win 3-1 over the Tigers in extras.
Tanner Bibee didn’t pick up a decision but was excellent through eight, as he allowed one run and struck out five.
Cleveland won their fifth straight.
