It was another good day at the Friendly Confines, as the Cubs completed a four-game sweep of the Reds on May 7. And in the AL East, the Yankees & Rays continued to build separation, as the two teams won yet again on the 7th.

Cubs win ninth straight

This one wasn’t a walk-off. The Cubs won 8-3, thanks to a 10-strikeout performance from Shota Imanaga and a strong offensive showing in Wrigley Field.

Michael Conforto continued what’s been a strong stretch for him this season. Conforto drove in two and picked up three hits, one of which was a home run off Rhett Lowder.

That win gave the Cubs their ninth straight game and 15th consecutive win at home. As for the Reds, Cincinnati dropped a seventh straight contest. Still, the Reds are 20-18 on the season.

Rays take first game in Boston

The Rays topped the Red Sox 8-4 at the start of the two teams’ series in Boston.

Griffin Jax struck out three over four innings. Jax started the contest for Tampa Bay before four pitchers helped finish out the game for the Rays. As for the offense, Junior Caminero hit his 10th home run of the season, while Chandler Simpson had two hits and three RBI off the bench.

That victory gave Tampa Bay its seventh straight win.

Yankees win 26th game of ’26

The Yankees defeated the Rangers 7-2 on May 7, which gave New York the series victory over Texas.

Six pitchers pieced together the win for the Yankees. As for the offense, Trent Grisham and Cody Bellinger each had three hits, while Ryan McMahon had two. Grisham drove in three of the Yankees’ runs.

Former Yankees prospect Ezequiel Duran drove in Texas’ only two runs.

The win gave the Yankees a +81 run differential this season, easily the most in the American League. As of May 8, only four AL teams (Yankees, Rays, Tigers, Mariners) have a positive run differential.

A’s blow out Phillies

The Athletics put up 12 runs in a big win over the Phillies.

It was not a good night for Andrew Painter, who gave up eight runs over 3.2 IP. Painter gave up home runs to Shea Langeliers, Brent Rooker, and Jacob Wilson. The rookie right-hander now has an ERA of 6.89.

Philadelphia only scored one run, which came off a fourth-inning home run from Kyle Schwarber. J.T. Ginn struck out eight over eight strong innings.
