On the 2026 Spring Training roster front, March 10 was a quieter day as far as cuts were concerned. However, some notable players were sent down on the day. Most notably, Mets pitching prospect Jonah Tong.
Astros trim down roster
The Astros optioned pitcher Jayden Murray to Triple-A Sugar Land on March 10, part of numerous cuts made by the team. Houston reassigned Walker Janek and Lucas Spence to Minor League camp, as well.
Murray netted himself a lot of strikeouts last season out of the bullpen for Sugar Land. The right-hander had a swing-and-miss rate on his four-seam fastball of 38.7%, second-best in Triple-A in 2025. He struck out 66 over 64.
Janek, a former first-round pick, went 5-11 with a home run during Grapefruit League action.
Mets option Tong
The Mets optioned pitcher Jonah Tong to Triple-A on March 10.
Tong, who made his MLB debut late last season, was one of the longer shots to make the Mets’ rotation in 2025. Right now, the Mets have Freddy Peralta, David Peterson, Sean Manaea, Nolan McLean, Kodai Senga, and Clay Holmes as options for the rotation. And given that Tong didn’t have quick success at the MLB level like McLean did, he likely needed a dominant spring.
The right-hander only made one start in Grapefruit League action. He gave three hits, one of which was a home run, and a walk over 2.2 IP.
Tigers select De Jesus
The Tigers announced that the team picked up the contract of left-hander Enmanuel De Jesus. Pitcher Troy Melton was placed on the 60-day IL as a corresponding move.
This move doesn’t mean that De Jesus will be on Detroit’s Opening Day roster. However, there was reported interest from KBO teams in De Jesus (h/t MLB.com). Thus, the Tigers opted to add him to the 40-man to prevent such a move.
It comes days after De Jesus put up a masterful performance against Team Israel in the WBC for Venezuela. De Jesus struck out eight over five innings in that contest.
De Jesus was a non-roster invite for the Tigers this spring.
Other moves
The Giants announced that the team had re-signed left-hander Joey Lucchesi to a Minor League deal.
Washington designated pitcher Richard Lovelady for assignment, a corresponding move to get Zack Littell on the 40-man roster. Littell’s signing became official on March 10.
The Angels optioned Victor Mederos to Triple-A Salt Lake.
