One of the Blue Jays’ 2026 Trade Deadline pickups is now up with the big-league club. Brett Bateman was promoted on August 7, one of several notable moves made on the day. Aside from that, Greg Weissert was demoted, while the Mets picked up infield depth with Gabriel Arias.
Bateman up with Blue Jays
The Blue Jays selected outfielder Brett Bateman from Triple-A Buffalo.
Bateman had a fantastic month in July, as the outfielder slashed .358/.430/.547 with 34 hits, third-most in the International League on the month. Twelve of those were extra-base hits.
A high-contact hitter, Bateman was acquired last weekend in the Kevin Gausman trade.
Arias claimed by Mets
The Mets claimed infielder Gabriel Arias off waivers from the Cleveland Guardians.
Arias was designated for assignment by the Guardians after the trade deadline this past week. A veteran infielder who is versatile and plays multiple positions, Arias is known for being a high-chase hitter. He didn’t have a particularly good season at the plate with Cleveland, as he slashed .244/.284/.386 this season.

George Klassen (Angels), Mason Black (Royals), Nick Davila (Mariners), Kade Strowd (D-backs), Jake Meyers (Astros), Zebby Matthews (Twins), David Sandlin & Edgar Quero (White Sox) were recalled.
Mitch Farris (Angels), Greg Weissert (Red Sox), Kohl Drake (D-backs), Wyatt Mills (Nationals), and Tristan Gray (Twins) were optioned to the Minors.
Other moves
The Red Sox signed reliever John Brebbia to a Minor League deal. Additionally, the club selected left-hander Raymond Burgos from Triple-A Worcester.
Lou Trivino is back with the Phillies, as he re-signed with the club on a Minor League deal.
Cody Laweryson re-signed with the Twins on a Minor League pact.
Taylor Rashi (Twins), Rudy Martin Jr. (Blue Jays), and Nolan Kingham (Rangers) were designated for assignment.
Chris Devenski (Pirates) and Aaron Bummer (Royals) elected free agency.
