For the first time in his professional career, Oswaldo Cabrera is no longer in the Yankees’ organization. Cincinnati claimed the veteran infielder, one of several moves made on September 18. Additionally, Michael Lorenzen’s short time with the Blue Jays likely concluded on the day.

Ex-Yankee Cabrera now with Reds

The Reds claimed Oswaldo Cabrera off waivers from the Yankees.

Cabrera’s a versatile infielder who can play all over the field and has several years of experience at the MLB level. However, he spent most of 2025 and 2026 with Triple-A Scranton.

New York designated Cabrera for assignment on September 16.

Blue Jays cut Lorenzen

The Blue Jays designated pitcher Michael Lorenzen for assignment.

Lorenzen was signed in late August to bolster a pitching staff depleted by injuries. Rather than use him as a traditional starter, Toronto opted to use him as a multi-inning reliever with mixed results.

He allowed runs in five of six outings with the Blue Jays. In his final appearance, Lorenzen conceded five earned runs and walked three over two innings against the Tigers back on September 15.

Pitcher Jose Rodriguez was selected from Triple-A to replace Lorenzen on the roster.

Recalls & options

Julian Aguiar (Reds), Cade Povich (Orioles), Mason Barnett (Athletics), Ronny Mauricio (Mets), Colton Gordon (Brewers), Cesar Prieto (Cardinals), Bryce Teodosio (Angels), Alan Roden (Twins), and Duncan Davitt (Giants) were recalled from the Minors.

BJ Murray (Cubs), Joe Rock (Athletics), Robby Ahlstrom (Rangers), Codi Heuer (Orioles), Landon Knack (Dodgers), Kyle Backhus (Phillies), and Garrett Stallings (Brewers) were optioned.

Other notes

Michel Otanez had his contract selected by the Rangers from Triple-A Round Rock.

The Cardinals sent pitcher Peter Strzelecki outright to Triple-A Memphis. Diamondbacks reliever Derek Law was also outrighted.

Lourdes Gurriel Jr. (Diamondbacks) and Ramon Urias (Cardinals) were released.
