Aside from going for the AL East, one of the big goals for the Yankees down the stretch was to keep the club healthy. Unfortunately, Aaron Judge, who didn’t partake in a rehab assignment before his return earlier this month, is now very much on the bubble for the playoffs. Judge is headed back to the injured list.

Judge going back on IL

The Yankees will officially place outfielder Aaron Judge on the IL with a right calf strain on the 19th, retroactive to September 17.

Judge was removed early on the 16th against the Twins with leg tightness, at least what it was described as at the time. The outfielder didn’t believe imaging was necessary when the Yankees left Minnesota.

But now, the Yankees will be without Judge until at least the final day of the regular season, when he’s eligible to return.

That wasn’t the only injury-related news for the Yankees on the day. Manager Aaron Boone indicated that it would be unlikely that Ryan Weathers will pitch again in the regular season. Weathers has been on the IL with a forearm flexor strain.

IL moves

Giants pitcher Logan Webb is done for 2026, as San Francisco placed him on the 15-day IL with a right middle finger blister.

Additionally, Giants infielder Nate Furman was placed on the 10-day IL with a right oblique strain.

Speaking of oblique strains, Cardinals outfielder Joshua Baez was placed on the 10-day IL with a left oblique strain.

Jared Young‘s season is also over, as the Mets first baseman was placed on the 7-day IL with a concussion. Young was removed on the 17th after he was hit in the head by teammate Nolan McLean.

Twins outfielder Trevor Larnach was placed on the 10-day IL with a left wrist sprain.

Angels infielder Kyren Paris was placed on the 10-day IL with a right index finger fracture.

Cole Winn (Rangers) and Spencer Steer (Reds) were transferred to the 60-day IL.

Rehab assignments

Athletics infielder Joshua Kuroda-Grauer went 0-for-3 with a strikeout for Triple-A Las Vegas.

Rangers catcher Kyle Higashioka went 1-for-3 with a walk and a strikeout for Triple-A Round Rock.

Cardinals outfielder Everson Pereira went 1-for-3 with two strikeouts for Triple-A Memphis.

Other notes

White Sox outfielder Tristan Peters was removed with a shoulder contusion.

Andres Gimenez (hamstring), Willson Contreras (hand), Jac Caglianone (hand), and Bryce Eldridge (head laceration) were held out of their clubs’ respective lineups.

Marlins reliever Pete Fairbanks will undergo thoracic outlet syndrome surgery, per the club.

The Twins announced that Byron Buxton underwent successful hip surgery.
