Multiple players were designated for assignment on September 16. Perhaps the most notable was Oswaldo Cabrera, who spent parts of five seasons with the New York Yankees, from 2022 through this year.

DFA’s

Infielder Oswaldo Cabrera of the Yankees was the most notable name designated for assignment.

Cabrera, now 27 years of age, made his MLB debut with the Yankees in 2022. He then played over 100 games with the club in 2023 and 2024, spent most of 2025 on the IL, and then played just three games with the big-league club this year.

Over 122 games with Triple-A Scranton, Cabrera slashed .288/.345/.444 with 19 home runs and 34 extra-base hits.

The Dodgers designated 1B/OF Ryan Ward for assignment. Ward was first promoted to the Majors in April, months after the club added him to the 40-man roster in November 2025. He hit three home runs and seven extra-base hits over 20 games at the big-league level.

St. Louis designated Ramon Urias and Peter Strzelecki for assignment. Strzelecki was activated off the injured list earlier in the day.
