After an 18-home run campaign in Triple-A last season, Sterlin Thompson hit over .340 in his first six weeks of the 2026 Minor League season. Now, Thompson will get a shot at the MLB level. That was one of several notable moves made on May 15.
Rockies promote former first-round pick
The Rockies recalled outfielder Sterlin Thompson from Triple-A Albuquerque.
Thompson was a former first-round pick in 2022 who has had, arguably, his best pro season in 2026. The Florida Gator alumnus slashed .344/.491/.496 with four home runs and 10 extra-base hits, plus a 30:28 K:BB ratio.
As of May 15, Thompson was tied for 12th in the PCL in total hits (43), and he’s shown good bat-to-ball skills. A 23% Whiff% in April, and in May, he struck out just nine times in nine games.
