Before anyone goes into apocalyptic mode about the pending 2026-27 MLB lockout, understand that there will be baseball in 2027 — and that’s a guarantee. In February 2027, the NCAA college baseball season will get going, as schools from across the country will work towards one goal: getting to Omaha & winning. Here’s a look at when the DI season begins in 2027.

When does the 2027 college baseball season start?

The 2027 season is set to begin on February 19, 2027.

It’s a later date than usual, at least compared to past seasons. Last year, the baseball season began on February 13, 2026. But for 2027, the season will start a week later.

Also, it should be noted that the above date is for the start of the actual 2027 campaign. Why that matters is that many colleges will play anywhere from two to five fall games during September through November. These are exhibition games that do not count towards the following year’s schedule.

Notable matchups

As of September 2026, we don’t know all of the notable matchups for Opening Weekend for the 2027 season. But if precedent is any indication, don’t expect any in-conference matchups, as those don’t typically get started until March of each year.

We do know that several schools will open up in Surprise, Arizona, the Spring Training home of the Royals and Rangers. Vanderbilt, Nebraska, Oregon State, and UC Santa Barbara will play three games each from February 19-21, 2027.

College baseball season length

The college baseball season runs for roughly four months.

Every year, the NCAA college baseball season runs from mid-February through mid-May. After the regular season are the postseason conference tournaments, followed by the start of the NCAA Tournament in either late May or at the very beginning of June.

Postseason play will run through until the end of June, at the conclusion of the College World Series in Omaha, Nebraska.
