The Astros will send Carlos Correa to Florida in the hopes that he can come back from ankle surgery before the playoffs start. That was just one bit of injury-related news from September 1, which also included an update on Adley Rutschman.

Rutschman remained out

Red Sox catcher Adley Rutschman remained out on September 1 with an elbow injury.

Manager Chad Tracy, in an interview with WEEI Radio in Boston, noted that Rutschman is dealing with a hyperextended elbow. It’s an injury that the All-Star catcher will have to deal with through the rest of the year.

Update on Correa

Everything has trended up for Carlos Correa in recent weeks. Originally believed to be done for 2026 early on in the year. Correa and the Astros have indicated that he may very well be back before the season’s end. On September 1, the infielder provided an update.

Correa noted he will go to Florida to continue his rehab at the Astros’ Spring Training facility. He believes that it’ll be a roughly week-to-10-day stint, which will “tell us a lot.” The Astros infielder’s been given the ok to ramp up activities.

As far as hitting, the only thing that Correa has not done to this point is face live pitching.

IL moves

Given that so many moves were made with the roster expansion, several players were transferred to the 60-day IL to clear 40-man roster spots.

Endy Rodriguez (Pirates), Drew Millas (Nationals), Robert Suarez (Braves), Ryan Thompson (Diamondbacks), Adrian Houser (Giants), Luis Rengifo (Padres), Eduardo Rivera (Red Sox), and Joshua Kuroda-Grauer (Athletics) were all moved to the 60-day IL.

Orioles outfielder Christian Franklin was placed on the 10-day IL with left hand inflammation.

Red Sox reliever Tyron Guerrero was placed on the 15-day IL with right shoulder inflammation.

Rehab assignments

Pirates infielder Konnor Griffin went 0-for-4 with a walk and a strikeout for Triple-A Indianapolis.

Dodgers pitcher Kris Bubic struck out one over a scoreless inning for Triple-A Oklahoma City. It was Bubic’s first appearance in an actual game since June 27, and his first in the Dodgers organization since he was traded by Kansas City in August.

Twins pitcher Joe Ryan allowed one run and struck out four over three innings for Triple-A St. Paul. Ryan averaged 91 MPH off his four-seamer. He topped out at 93 MPH overall.

Ryan went up against Tony Gonsolin, on rehab with the Royals. Gonsolin allowed seven hits (two home runs), walked two, and struck out three over 3.1 IP for Omaha. Gonsolin averaged 91 MPH and topped out at 92 MPH.

Other notes

Astros pitcher Mike Burrows is dealing with right shoulder inflammation, per manager Joe Espada.

Blue Jays pitcher Trey Yesavage will throw a bullpen session on September 4, per manager John Schneider. Yesavage is recovering from meniscus surgery.

Pedro Ramirez (back) remained out on the 1st.
