As expected, the MLB saw a significant number of transactions on September 1. Rosters have expanded, meaning some veterans and some young prospects were moved up to the Majors for the first time.
Signings
Trevor Williams is a member of the Rangers, as Texas signed the veteran pitcher for the stretch run.
Williams was a starter for much of his tenure with the Nationals. But this past season, Williams, who had relief experience with the Mets, worked out of the bullpen for the Nationals. He posted a sub-3.00 ERA before the Nats cut him.
The Mariners, meanwhile, signed and added former Ranger Hoby Milner. Milner spent the last month with Triple-A Iowa in the Cubs organization on a rehab assignment. Just a few days before the 1st, he was designated for assignment and released.
Austin Slater (Rays) and Justin Topa (Yankees) re-signed with their respective teams after being released from contracts.
The Rockies signed Orlando Arcia to a Minor League deal.
Other notable prospects promoted
The Nationals promoted Yohandy Morales, a former second-round pick by the club back in 2023 out of Miami (FL).
Morales, a quirky hitter, slashed .286/.363/.519 with 25 home runs and 44 extra-base hits over 104 games with Triple-A Rochester.
The Orioles brought up pitcher Luis De Leon from Triple-A Norfolk. A hard-throwing lefty and an extreme groundball pitcher, he worked most of 2026 as a starter. De Leon struck out 121 over 99 innings pitched. But for a good amount of August, De Leon, one of the better pitchers in the Baltimore organization, worked as a reliever.
Jedixson Paez was promoted to start for the Red Sox on September 1. One of the better prospects in the Red Sox organization, Paez pitched in three levels this year and put up monstrous swing-and-miss numbers in Double-A. But this won’t be his big-league debut, as he worked in three games with the White Sox earlier this season.
Paez was picked by the White Sox in the 2025 Rule 5 Draft. He spent the early portion of 2026 with Chicago before he was returned.
Cubs infielder BJ Murray, who had a career-high 49 extra-base hits for Triple-A Iowa, was promoted to the big leagues.
