American League
Orioles manager Brandon Hyde won the American League Manager of the Year award. Hyde’s accomplishment marks yet another award for the O’s in 2023.
Adley Rutschman and Gunnar Henderson won AL Silver Sluggers, and the latter also took home the 2023 AL Rookie of the Year Award.
This was Hyde’s fifth season as the Orioles manager and his most successful to date. Under the O’s manager, Baltimore rattled off 101 wins and won the AL East title for the first time since 2014. It was also the Orioles’ first 100+ win campaign since 1980.
Hyde helped oversee a massive rebuild between 2019-22. The Orioles won 83 games — a 31-win improvement from a year earlier — in 2022 and improved by +18 this past season.
Ultimately, Hyde and the Orioles lost in the ALDS to the eventual World Series champion Texas Rangers.
National League
Marlins manager Skip Schumaker won the National League Manager of the Year award after his first season in Miami. Schumaker took over from Don Mattingly, who has the most wins as a manager in franchise history but owned a .430 winning percentage with the Marlins.
The ex-Cardinals infielder had a strong first year with Miami, as the Marlins won 84 games in 2023. That figure was the most by the Marlins in a full season since 2009 (87).
The Marlins, led by Schumaker, Jesus Luzardo, and Jorge Soler, made the MLB Postseason for just the second time since their second World Series title in 2003 and the first since 2020. Miami lost in the NL Wild Card round to the Phillies.
