Free agency has opened up across Major League Baseball. Thirteen players, should those individuals sign with new teams, have a chance to earn their potentially former clubs draft pick compensation. That is because those thirteeen, a list that includes All-Stars Kyle Tucker, Edwin Diaz, and Kyle Schwarber, received qualifying offers.
Which players received qualifying offers by teams in 2025?
Per the league (h/t MLB.com), here are the 13 players who received qualifying offers this winter:
| Player | 2025 Team |
|---|---|
| Bo Bichette | Blue Jays |
| Dylan Cease | Padres |
| Edwin Diaz | Mets |
| Zac Gallen | Diamondbacks |
| Trent Grisham | Yankees |
| Michael King | Padres |
| Shota Imanaga | Cubs |
| Kyle Schwarber | Phillies |
| Ranger Suarez | Phillies |
| Gleyber Torres | Tigers |
| Kyle Tucker | Cubs |
| Brandon Woodruff | Brewers |
| Framber Valdez | Astros |
Many of the players listed above should not be surprises.
Kyle Schwarber hit an NL-high 56 home runs this past season, in what was arguably his best year as a Phillie. Schwarber hit 187 home runs with the Phillies, leading the National League twice in that category.
The other Kyle in free agency, Kyle Tucker, finished 24th among qualified MLB players in OPS (.841) this season. Bo Bichette, right behind him with a .840 OPS this year, was also given one. That news was confirmed earlier on November 6 by the club.
Those three, along with Trent Grisham and Gleyber Torres, headline the hitter portion of this list. Torres was not qualified by the Yankees last winter but was by the Tigers this November. Trent Grisham, a bench player in 2024, hit a career-best 34 home runs this season for New York (AL).
As for the pitchers, the Phillies tendered an offer to Ranger Suarez. San Diego gave one to Dylan Cease and Michael King. Both Cease and King finished in the top ten in MLB in 2024 in terms of strikeouts.
Zac Gallen, who had a career-worst 89 ERA+, was tendered one by the Diamondbacks.
Brandon Woodruff, who was not given one in 2023 when he first hit free agency, was this time around. Woodruff pitched exceptionally well when healthy this season.
One reliever, Edwin Diaz, was given a qualifying offer. Diaz was a free agent back in 2022. However, he re-signed with the Mets three days after hitting the market, meaning he was never given a qualifying offer back then.
That is important to note, as players previously given a qualifying offer are not eligible for another one. Pete Alonso (Mets) and Alex Bregman (Red Sox) were tendered an offer last winter, while Cody Bellinger (Yankees) was given one in 2023.
Additionally, players traded mid-season are not eligible. Meaning, individuals like Josh Naylor and Eugenio Suarez (Mariners) could not given one by their respective team(s).
Players have until November 18 to accept a qualifying offer. Players who don’t accept would allow their former teams to recoup a MLB Draft pick next July if signed by a new team.
What was the qualifying offer in 2025?
For 2025, the qualifying offer is valued at $22.05MM.
