Star college pitcher Chase Burns made waves this past summer after he transferred out of the University of Tennessee to Wake Forest. The righty has elite stuff and could go early on Day 1 of the 2024 MLB Draft — and a strong spring could make that a reality. Burns started off the spring on February 17 against Illinois and he did not disappoint.

Burns Fans 10 in First Outing with Wake Forest

In his first start with Wake Forest, Chase Burns struck out 10 over six scoreless innings and gave up just three hits and one walk. The junior righty faced just 21 batters in the game on February 17.

Per the Wake Forest broadcast, Burns hit triple-digits with his fastball on several occasions. He mainly used that pitch and a devastating slider against Illinois.

Burns struggled with command problems during his sophomore season at Tennessee, which saw him move to the bullpen during the second half. The Wake Forest righty pitched well in the pen but he’s now with a Demon Deacons team that now has a second dominant starter for 2024.

Just a day earlier, potential first-round pick Josh Hartle struck out four and gave up just one run against Fordham.

First baseman Nick Kurtz went 2-4 with a home run against the Illinois Fighting Alumni. It was the slugger’s first home run of 2024 after the 2024 MLB Draft prospect belted 24 a year earlier.

As for Seaver King, the former Wingate star has walked twice thus far with Wake Forest but went 0-7 in his first two games with the team.
