On November 3, more MLB players became free agents by way of option declines. Alex Bregman & Cody Bellinger, both of whom had big years on the East Coast, are now free agents. Additionally, closers Edwin Diaz and Robert Suarez will head to market.
Bellinger & Diaz among new free agents
Per multiple reports (including MLB.com), Alex Bregman, Cody Bellinger, Edwin Diaz, and Robert Suarez were among the players to opt out of their deals on November 3. Those four join a lengthy list of free agents, many of whom entered the pool on November 2.
These free agents are currently prohibited from signing with any team until 5:00 PM ET on November 6.
Bregman had two years left on his three-year deal, which he signed with the Red Sox back in February. That deal had two opt-outs. Bregman had a very good year despite missing time with injury, as the third baseman slashed .273/.360/.462 (.821 OPS) with 18 home runs and 46 extra-base hits across 114 games. His power played well in Fenway Park.
Bellinger hit 29 home runs for the Yankees in 2025, his most in a season since the 2019 campaign. Like Bregman, Bellinger’s tendencies — he’s a pull-heavy hitter — fit very well in his home confines last year. The Yankees acquired him last winter in a salary dump deal with the Cubs.
Diaz & Suarez, meanwhile, become the headlining relievers in a relief pitcher free agent class that also includes Ryan Helsley and Devin Williams.
The 31-year-old Diaz, who had two player options and a team option for 2028 left on his deal, will head to the market after yet another impressive campaign. Diaz struck out 98 batters over 66 innings with the Mets, earning himself his first All-Star nod since 2022.
Suarez had two player options left, both of which were valued at $8MM each. The 34-year-old struck out 75 over 69.2 IP and notched 40 saves for the Padres, the latter of which was an NL-best.
Since Suarez originally signed with the Padres as a foreign professional free agent, he can head to the market even though he only has four years of MLB experience.
Two other players who joined free agency on the 3rd were Mitch Garver (Mariners) and Michael Lorenzen (Royals).
Garver had a $12MM mutual option ($1MM buyout) for 2026 from the contract he signed back in the winter of 2023. He slashed .187/.290/.341 across two seasons with Seattle.
Lorenzen had a $12.5MM mutual option for 2026 with the Royals.
Other news
The Rays designated six players for assignment. Those players were pitchers Garrett Acton, Caleb Boushley, Alex Faedo, Joey Gerber, and Cole Wilcox, plus outfielder Stuart Fairchild.
Those moves allowed the Rays to activate Hunter Bigge, Jonny DeLuca, Shane McClanahan, and Manuel Rodriguez.
Additionally, the Reds traded Ryan Vilade to the Rays for cash.
