Team Great Britain is back for the 2026 World Baseball Classic after the country’s debut run three years earlier. This time around, Britain has their star, plus other surrounding talent that could make the country a sleeper in this year’s tournament.

Pitchers

Compared to 2023, Great Britain’s pitching staff has more potential impact talent.

The Beck brothers will represent Great Britain. Tristan Beck has been a Major League reliever for the past few years, while his younger brother Brendan Beck could make his MLB debut in 2026 with the Yankees. Brendan had a strong 2025 in Double-A before he moved to Triple-A Scranton.

Gary Gill Hill is another option for the starting rotation, aside from Beck. Hill, drafted by the Rays several years ago out of high school in upstate New York, struck out 107 batters over 136.2 IP. He’s not a big swing-and-miss pitcher but was one of the best groundball pitchers in the South Atlantic League.

Dodgers pitching prospect Antonio Knowles was one of the best swing-and-miss pitchers in the Texas League last season. The right-hander doesn’t throw very hard, only capping out at 92-93 MPH. However, he has a diverse arsenal, which also includes a cutter and a slider.

Another notable reliever is 31-year-old Michael Petersen, who pitched in the Majors last season with the Braves and Marlins.

Great Britain’s pitching staff is heavily tilted, as far as handedness is concerned. The only lefty on the team is Nick Wells, who spent seven seasons in affiliated baseball.

Returning pitchers from 2023 are Ryan Long, Graham Spraker, Tyler Viza, and former Phillies starter Vance Worley.

Catchers

Harry Ford was one of the breakout stars of the last World Baseball Classic. Then, coming off a big year with Low-A Modesto, Ford hit a team-best two home runs and posted a 1.246 OPS.

Fast forward to 2026, and the stakes are higher for Ford, who will need to be a key contributor. Ford made his MLB debut late last season with Seattle and will look to crack the Opening Day 2026 roster for the Nationals. Washington acquired him for reliever Jose Ferrer in the winter.

Infielders

Three years ago, Great Britain didn’t have arguably their best player. Jazz Chisholm Jr., amidst a move to the outfield for the Marlins, didn’t compete for the country he played for in 2016 during the WBC qualifier that year. However, he will suit up for the country in 2026.

Chisholm Jr. is one of four infielders from the Bahamas. Marlins farmhand Ian Lewis, former National Lucius Fox, and Cubs infield prospect B.J. Murray highlight the infield for Britain.

Murray had a 20-20 season for Double-A Knoxville in the Cubs organization last year.

Speedster Nate Eaton, Reds prospect Ivan Johnson, and ex-Braves prospect Nick Ward round out the infield core.

Outfielders

Matt Koperniak has yet to make it to the Majors. The 28-year-old spent the last three years in Memphis, the Cardinals’ Triple-A affiliate. This past season, Koperniak slashed .246/.317/.382 with 14 home runs and 35 extra-base hits with the Redbirds.

Koperniak (London) is one of two players born in the United Kingdom on the roster. The only other player is Michael Petersen (Middlesex).

Kristian Robinson, meanwhile, had a strong overall year between Double-A and Triple-A in the Diamondbacks’ organization. He’s one of several prospects for Arizona who could make an impact on the team this upcoming season.

Trayce Thompson, who played in the last WBC for Great Britain, spent last season in the Red Sox organization playing for Triple-A Worcester.
