The 2025 MLB Draft class, or at least some of the players from that crop, is moving fast. Eli Willits and Kayson Cunningham made light work of Low-A. And now, those two will receive new tests, as the two were promoted to High-A by their respective organizations.

Willits & Cunningham to High-A

Two shortstops taken in the first round last July, Eli Willits and Kayson Cunningham, were promoted from Low-A to High-A on June 9.

Willits did everything he needed to in order to get a promotion to High-A. The first-overall pick and Nationals prospect slashed .300/.418/.500 with six home runs, 25 extra-base hits, and 57 total hits. Willits left the Carolina League in the top ten of said hits category.

As for Cunningham, he only hit one home run in the Carolina League. However, he hit .381, thanks to 67 total hits that were among the five highest in that circuit. Cunningham also stole 10 bases for the Rawhide.

Other promotions

To make room for Willits on the Wilmington roster, Devin Fitz-Gerald was promoted to Double-A Harrisburg. Fitz-Gerald will be joined by Ethan Petry, the Nats’ second-round pick from 2025.

Devin Taylor, the A’s second-round pick from 2025, was moved to Double-A Midland. Taylor was tied with Aaron Walton for the third-most hits (59) in the Midwest League.

Rays reliever Jacob Kmatz was promoted to Double-A Montgomery. Kmatz struck out 45 over 29.1 IP with the High-A Bowling Green Hot Rods.

Angels prospect Anthony Scull was promoted to Double-A Rocket City. Scull hit 11 home runs with High-A Tri-City this season before the promotion.
