Sony San Diego launched Season 3 of MLB The Show 24 on August 29. Along with Season 3 in MLB The Show 24 came four new Cornerstone Captain cards. Much like in Seasons 1 & 2, Diamond Dynasty players can pick from one of four Captain cards, each of which will boost cards that meet specific requirements. Here’s a look at the four Season 3 Cornerstone Captains, plus which one you should choose.
The best Cornerstone Captain to choose & why
In our opinion, the best Cornerstone Captain to choose for Season 3 of MLB The Show 24 is Oneil Cruz, and we’ll explain why in a minute. First, let’s take a look at the boosts for each of the four Cornerstones of Season 3:

Mike Mussina
Oneil Cruz
Steven Kwan
Steven Kwan’s boost is intriguing, particularly in the early stages of Season 3 with the power curve reset to 95 OVR. There are several players from Team Affinity 3 — Kutter Crawford and Mariano Rivera are two examples — who can benefit, provided the cards have sub-90 Power. However, there’s a drawback, in that means less power overall on one’s team.
Mike Mussina might be more viable later on in Season 3. However, there are few Hall of Fame pitchers — particularly meta ones — who can benefit from the boost. Lowe’s boost is good. But like with the Kwan, there’s a downside with it, namely having to use players with less-than-stellar contact.
The Cruz boost is straightforward; use players with 91 or above Arm Strength. As far as the Chapter 1 bosses are concerned, Mariano Rivera, Shane McClanahan, Jacob deGrom, and Bryce Harper are just a few of the names who meet the requirements. And, it’ll be viable even when the 99s come en masse.
What’s great about Cruz’s boost is that can be used, even on the bench. This is provided one uses the right setup. To do this, put Cruz in the lineup and activate his boost (normally, hitting captains must be in the lineup to activate the boosts). Then, open up the MLB The Show companion app and go into the lineup screen. Take Cruz out of the lineup on console and then, un-assign Cruz’s boost in the app.
The boost will remain active, so long as Cruz remains on the active roster. Lineups can be tweaked after this action is completed.
