It’s been nearly three years since the launch of Super Mega Baseball 3, and a lot has changed for Metalhead Software’s franchise since then. On May 2, EA Sports and Metalhead announced that Super Mega Baseball 4 is coming later this spring for consoles worldwide. And, this edition will be very different than its predecessors.

Super Mega Baseball (SMB) 4 will mark the first time in over a decade that EA Sports will release a baseball game on consoles. The publisher purchased the developer of the Super Mega Baseball franchise, Metalhead Software, two years ago and SMB 4 will mark the first edition of the franchise since the acquisition.

SMB 4 will include much of the same visuals that are expected from the franchise, but some new twists along the way. In addition to expanding to current-gen (Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5) consoles, Super Mega Baseball 4 will also include cross-play between different platforms, two-way players, expanded player traits, a new team chemistry system, as well as new audio sounds and visuals.

Prior Super Mega Baseball games featured fictional, yet larger-than-life figures on playable teams. That will remain the case with SMB 4, but legends of Major League Baseball will also make appearances in the game. EA Sports confirmed that over 200 playable legends from MLB’s past will be in the title, including Jose Bautista, Keith Hernandez, Babe Ruth, Hank Aaron, and cover athlete David Ortiz.

Super Mega Baseball will be available for both old and current-gen Xbox and PlayStation consoles, as well as the Nintendo Switch and PC. The title will launch worldwide on June 2, with early access for those who purchase the Ballpark Edition (not available for Nintendo Switch) or EA Play beginning on May 30.
