American League

Baltimore Orioles infielder Gunnar Henderson won the 2023 AL Rookie of the Year. This came just one year after his teammate Adley Rutschman finished second in the voting, behind 2022 winner Julio Rodriguez.

This also marked Henderson’s second award of the fall, after he received the Utility Silver Slugger award in the American League.

It was a strong first full season in the Majors for Henderson, who finished in the top 25 of the league in fWAR (4.6) and fifth in wRC+ (123) among third basemen. Rafael Devers (124), Alex Bregman (125), Austin Riley (127), and Isaac Paredes (137) were the only other ones who finished higher.

The 22-year-old hit .255/.325/.489 with 28 home runs, 66 extra-base hits, and 82 RBI. Henderson also added in 10 stolen bases.

Henderson unanimously won the vote for the Rookie of the Year. Guardians SP Tanner Bibee and Red Sox 1B Triston Casas were the other two finalists.

National League

Diamondbacks outfielder Corbin Carroll was the winner of the 2023 Rookie of the Year on the National League side.

Carroll had an incredible 2023 campaign, one that saw him hit .285/.362/.506 with 25 home runs, 54 stolen bases, and 65 extra-base hits. The 23-year-old also picked up a pair of home runs and 10 RBI in Arizona’s playoff run this past season.

Among outfielders, Carroll finished sixth in the Majors in wRC+ (133). Cody Bellinger (134), Kyle Tucker (140), Juan Soto (155), Mookie Betts (167), and Ronald Acuna Jr. (170) were the only other outfielders with higher figures.

Dodgers OF James Outman and Mets SP Kodai Senga were the other two finalists in the National League.

Both 2023 MLB Rookie of the Year award winners, for what it’s worth, did make it to the MLB Postseason in their first full campaign.
