The 2023 Golden Spikes Winner
The winner of the 2023 Golden Spikes Award was LSU outfielder Dylan Crews. Crews beat out University of Florida 1B/P Jac Caglianone and LSU pitcher Paul Skenes.
The 2023 campaign was a landmark one for Crews, who is one of the candidates to go first overall in the 2023 MLB Draft. The 21-year-old entered play on June 25 with a .418 batting average, good for seventh overall in the NCAA. Crews belted 18 home runs and 35 extra base hits for LSU in 2023, a team that made the College World Series Final.
Caglianone put up an excellent season for the Gators both as a pitcher and hitter. As for Skenes, the fireballer blew through records in what will likely be his lone season in Baton Rouge. Entering play on June 25, Skenes sat second in the NCAA in ERA (1.69) and broke Ben McDonald‘s record for most strikeouts in a single season by a SEC pitcher
Crews follows in the footsteps of former University of Texas star and current Diamondbacks prospect Ivan Melendez. Melendez won the 2022 Golden Spikes award after he hit .387, hit 32 home runs, and drove in 94 for the Longhorns last year.
