It’s Memorial Day across the United States and while a full slate of MLB games is not scheduled, there will be plenty of action to take in early on the 27th. Among those games include the Dodgers heading to New York to face the Mets, while Luis Arraez will face his former team, the Marlins, in San Diego. So, what looks good as far as bets are concerned? - Wilyer Abreu under 1.5 H+R+RBI (-175)
- Astros/Mariners over 7.5 runs (-110)
Wilyer Abreu is coming off a three-hit performance on May 26 and has hits in six of his last seven. So, why are we picking against Abreu on Memorial Day?
Abreu’s set to face Cole Irvin and the Orioles on May 27. Abreu is hitting .302 with a .926 OPS against right-handed hitters. But against lefties, the 24-year-old left-handed hitter has just a .182 AVG and .477 OPS.
As for our second pick, the Astros and Mariners will play the lone late-night game on the East Coast, one that will feature Framber Valdez and Bryce Miller as the two probable starters.
Miller’s been a good strikeout pitcher in 2024. Yet, he’s been average in terms of Whiff% (25.1%), below average in Chase% (25.3%), and has conceded a lot of hard contact this season. And as far as hard results are concerned, the 25-year-old’s yielded four earned runs in three of his four May starts.
Valdez, meanwhile, owns a 5.55 ERA in May and is coming off arguably his worst start in 2024 when he gave up eight earned runs and 10 hits against the Angels on the 20th. Valdez gave up five earned runs against the M’s earlier this month, as Luis Urias and Cal Raleigh both hit homers off the lefty.
