The third weekend of the 2025 NCAA Division I season concluded on March 2, and updated polls released on the 3rd. The top-five remained relatively unchanged. However, a poor week pushed Texas A&M down, while UNC moved up even further after a perfect start to 2025.
Here’s the post-Week 3 coaches poll for the 2025 NCAA baseball season:
- Tennessee
- LSU (+1)
- Arkansas (+2)
- North Carolina (+2)
- Florida State
- Florida (+1)
- Georgia (+1), Clemson (+2)
- TIE at #7
- Texas (+5)
- Oregon State
- Virginia
- Oklahoma (+5)
- Oregon (+2)
- Texas A&M (-12)
- UC Santa Barbara (+4)
- Wake Forest (-3)
- Alabama (+3)
- Vanderbilt (-6)
- Ole Miss (JUMP)
- Auburn (JUMP)
- Troy (+3)
- Southern Miss (+1)
- Dallas Baptist (-5)
- West Virginia (JUMP)
- UC Irvine (JUMP)
Mississippi State, Duke, TCU, and Oklahoma State all fell out of the top-25.
UNC has been led pitching-wise by Jason DeCaro, a standout freshman last year who owns a 0.50 ERA over 18 innings thrown. DeCaro rolled against Stony Brook, going 7.2 IP and striking out three for the Tar Heels.
The Tar Heels’ offense hasn’t received much yet from Gavin Gallaher, who like DeCaro, excelled in his freshman year. However, grad student Hunter Stokely batted .444 over the course of the first three seasons. Kane Kepley, who transferred to Chapel Hill from Liberty, is batting .366.
However, the big story from this past weekend was in Houston, as Rice, Texas A&M, Arizona, Tennessee, and Oklahoma State participated in the Astros Foundation Classic. The two finalists from 2024 didn’t meet this past weekend. However, the two schools had stark, contrasting results.
The Vols swept their weekend slate of games, while A&M lost two of three. The Aggies beat Rice on the final day but lost to Arizona and Oklahoma State on Friday and Saturday. Add in a big upset on February 25 that saw A&M lose to Texas State and it’s not hard to see why the Aggies dropped.
Texas A&M’s bats have been relatively cold. Particularly, Gavin Grahovac. who’s batting .227 with six strikeouts in six games. The good news? Pitchers Ryan Prager, Long Beach State transfer Myles Patton, and Justin Lamkin all have sub-3.00 ERAs and are averaging over a strikeout per inning.
To add insult to injury, Texas moved up to #9 after sweeping the Las Vegas Classic. Junior Max Belyeu is hitting .477, while sophomore Ethan Mendoza is batting .424.
Four schools jumped into the top-25, including West Virginia. Despite losing one of the best college bats to the pros in July, the Mountaineers haven’t lost a beat, winning their first 12 games. USC Upstate transfer Jace Rinehart, one of the best sluggers in college baseball last season, is hitting .435.
UC Irvine, at #25, has benefited greatly from San Diego State transfer Jacob McCombs. McCombs slashed .429/.509/.939 (1.448 OPS) over his first 11 games. His 46 total bases is tied for third-best in Division I.
