We’ve reached the second month of the 2025 MLB regular season and fantasy baseball season. If the injury bug struck for you, here’s a look at five hitters to target as we enter Week 5, including several power options and a stolen base threat who seriously needs to be considered if available.
Best Week 5 hitters to target
- C Francisco Alvarez (Mets)
- 1B Rhys Hoskins (Brewers)
- 2B/3B/SS/OF Zach McKinstry (Tigers)
- C/1B Agustin Ramirez (Marlins)
- OF Chandler Simpson (Rays)
For the first time in 2025, a player makes this list for the second time this season. But first, here’s a quick recap of my Week 4 list.
TJ Friedl had a solid week with eight hits and three runs scored, as he continues to bat atop the Reds’ lineup. Dylan Moore had two home runs, while Connor Norby picked up two stolen bases. Unfortunately, Jake Mangum hit the injured list while leading the American League in stolen bases.
Which leads me into our Week 5 list.
Chandler Simpson, as noted in our coverage when he was promoted, was as dominant of a stolen base threat as one could find in the Minors. But, Simpson was also an effective hitter, finding holes to get on base. He’s done that thus far at the MLB level, as the Rays outfielder went 12-30 (.400) with three stolen bases in his first eight contests with Tampa.
He’s not a flashy hitter — but an effective one, armed with a good eye, keeping the bat in the zone, and the ability to put the bat on the ball. And if he can continue to do that with the Rays, he may not go back down to Triple-A.

Next up is Agustin Ramirez, another recently-promoted prospect. Ramirez had a loud first week at the MLB level, hitting .474 with three home runs and seven extra-base hits, showing off the bat speed and power that made him the headliner in the Jazz Chisholm Jr. trade last July.
Speaking of catchers, Francisco Alvarez is healthy and made an impact almost immediately. Alvarez hit a two-run home run on the 26th to give the Mets a 2-0 victory against Washington. And, it was a muscled opposite-field shot.
Remember, Alvarez had a 25-home run season two years ago, a testament to how much raw power he has.
Rhys Hoskins, meanwhile, has been on a quiet hot streak this past April. It might sound contradictory — and it should — but realistically, the 32-year-old hasn’t gotten as much attention compared to other players. And yet, Hoskins headed into play on the 28th with a .312 average in April with three home runs and 12 RBI.
The one drawback in Hoskins’ game is the .136 ISO, which would be a career-low. Hoskins hasn’t been hitting for much home run power. But on the flip side, he’s making more contact, as his 24.4% Whiff% in 2025 would be his best since 2019.
Lastly, Zach McKinstry was tied with Rhys Hoskins and several others for the fourth-most hits (10) between April 20-27. McKinstry, whom I’ve listed here before this season as a waiver wire target, is just one of those players who has constantly intrigued. He has stolen base potential and will hit despite hot and cold streaks.
Plus, he plays a lot of positions, and that provides incredible value.
