We’ve reached Week 17 of the 2025 fantasy baseball season for most — and a big one at that. It’s deadline week across Major League Baseball, meaning that a lot can change between now and the end of the day on July 31. So, here’s a look at which pitchers look promising on the fantasy waiver wire as Week 17 approaches.
Best Week 17 pitchers to target
- SP Slade Cecconi (Guardians)
- SP Patrick Corbin (Rangers)
- SP Logan Evans (Mariners)
- RP Seth Halvorsen (Rockies)
- SP Cade Horton (Cubs)
Let’s start with the spot options for this week.
Guardians pitcher Slade Cecconi has posted uneven numbers across the second half thus far. Cecconi conceded three home runs across 14.1 IP since the festivities in Atlanta. However, Cecconi does get somewhat of a break on July 27.
The right-hander will face the Rockies on July 28. It’s never a guaranteed win but given the opposition, he’s worth a grab.
Patrick Corbin, meanwhile, has been excellent since the break. The Rangers’ left-hander struck out 13 over 11.1 IP, with only two walks, and a .79 ERA since the break for the surging playoff contender.
Corbin’s a different man this year, thanks in large part to the increased usage of the cutter he began to use last season with Washington. It’s given him a sorely-needed weapon against right-handed hitters, something to get hitters in on the hands.
Rookie Logan Evans, meanwhile, will bring his sinker to Sacramento on July 29, facing Luis Severino and the Athletics. Severino has not pitched well at home (6.68 ERA) this season. Evans hasn’t induced a ton of groundballs thus far at the MLB level but is worth a look in deeper leagues.
Lastly, the upcoming deadline could see significant instability with regards to the closer’s job for several teams. Ryan Helsley, Emmanuel Clase, and Robert Suarez are among the rumored names out there.
Cade Horton, meanwhile, won’t pitch in Milwaukee this week & instead will go on the weekend at home against Baltimore. Horton hasn’t been a significant source of strikeouts. But, 12 innings with no earned runs allowed since the break is a plus for those who had him.
For those who need an option should a closer get moved in (or out), Rockies reliever Seth Halvorsen is an option for cheap saves. However, don’t expect a ton.
Overview of Week 16
The highlighted player in our Week 16 list was Trevor Rogers, who’s been on a tear this season for the Orioles. He continued that tear over the last 10 days.
Rogers notched two wins and struck out eight over 13, and he posted a 1.38 ERA in that span.
Ryne Nelson (.75 ERA, 8 K over 12 IP) sparkled in the post-All-Star week as well. Bailey Falter, meanwhile, struck out 10 over 11 and picked up a win during the long week.
