Red Sox third baseman Alex Bregman was on the path to potentially being on the AL All-Star team. However, a quad strain — sustained on May 23 — is the first real obstacle in Bregman’s tenure with Boston. Additionally, we have updates on other notable injured players, including Yimi Garcia & Joc Pederson.

Bregman out with quad strain

One day after the Red Sox pulled Alex Bregman with a quad injury, Boston placed him on the injured list with a quad strain.

Even though Bregman said he didn’t feel too bad on the 23rd, manager Alex Cora stated it’s a significant strain. For reference, Bregman missed two and a half months with a quad strain four years ago.

The move gave Marcelo Mayer his first MLB opportunity, as he was promoted on the 24th.

Garcia on IL

Toronto’s bullpen has been all over the map this month, as Jeff Hoffman — even though he’s been dealt some bad luck — and Yimi Garcia have struggled to get outs. Garcia, who had a 9.00 ERA in May, is now on the IL.

The Blue Jays placed him on the list with a right shoulder impingement.

Pederson dealt with hand fracture

Rangers designated hitter Joc Pederson was pulled from Texas’ game on May 24 after he got hit by a pitch by White Sox pitcher Bryse Wilson. After the game, the Rangers stated Pederson sustained a hand fracture.

Pederson, who sports a .507 OPS in 2025, will miss around six weeks.

Other injury news

Baltimore lost another outfielder to the IL, as Ramon Laureano hit the IL with a left ankle strain. It’s retroactive to May 21.

Jason Heyward was placed on the injured list with a left oblique strain.

Detroit had two rehabbers in Toledo (AAA) on the 24th. Sawyer Gipson-Long went four innings and struck out four. Wenceel Perez, who didn’t play the whole game, went 0-4.

Frankie Montas made his first start in the Mets organization on May 24, a rehab start with Brooklyn (A+). Montas threw 37 pitches and went 1.2 IP.
