Andrew McCutchen is back with a National League club, as he looks to get back in the Majors with the Braves. That move happened on July 3. And, another notable move was the Cubs welcoming back Drew Pomeranz to the bullpen.
McCutchen signs deal with Braves
The Braves signed OF/DH Andrew McCutchen to a Minor League deal on July 3. For now, he was assigned to the team’s FCL affiliate.
After the Pirates closed the door on a potential return in the winter, McCutchen signed a Minor League deal with the Rangers in March. He wound up making the big-league roster out of camp but his time in Texas didn’t go well.
McCutchen batted below .200 and posted an OPS below .500 before the Rangers cut him in May.
Cubs select Pomeranz
The Cubs selected Drew Pomeranz from Triple-A Iowa.
Pomeranz returns to the club where he had a renaissance as a reliever last season. The lefty signed with the Angels in the winter but didn’t last long with the club. Across 25 games, he posted a 5.01 ERA with Los Angeles (AL).
