On a light day across Major League Baseball, the injury news wasn’t as significant. However, Reds fans received a major update on Hunter Greene. Plus, several notable Major Leaguers continued rehab assignments, including Josh Lowe and Ryan Weathers.
Update on Greene
Yesterday, Hunter Greene left his start against the Braves with groin tightness. After a scheduled MRI, it was revealed Greene had a Grade 1 hamstring strain.
The expectation, per manager Terry Francona, is Greene will miss one or two starts, which throws into question if the Reds will place him on the injured list. Cincinnati’s manager said he would be placed on the IL but also said the team is talking things through before doing so.
Gimenez day-to-day
Both Anthony Santander and Andres Gimenez left the Blue Jays’ game on May 7 with quad tightness. Santander was back in the lineup on May 8 — but Andres Gimenez did not.
Gimenez remains day-to-day. Toronto has brought Michael Stefanic, removed from his game with Buffalo (AA) on May 8, to give the Jays additional infield depth.
Rehab assignments
Brewers pitcher Aaron Civale rehabbed with Nashville (AAA) on May 8, starting the game before he gave way for Logan Henderson. Civale struck out three over four scoreless innings and tossed 50 total pitches.
Ryan Weathers threw five scoreless innings for Jacksonville (AAA) on the 8th. Interestingly enough, Weathers touched 99 MPH in his start with Jumbo Shrimp, six days after the lefty hit 100 MPH.
Michael Kopech started in Oklahoma City (AAA) on May 8 as he looks to come back from a shoulder injury. It did not go well, as Kopech walked five and gave up five earned runs. He did not record an out.
Rays outfielder Josh Lowe went 0-2 for two walks in a rehab game with Durham (AAA). He stayed in for the duration of the game.
Sawyer Gipson-Long, who missed all of 2024 aside from one rehab start, struck out two over 1.2 IP. The Tigers right-hander touched 94 MPH in his 2025 bow.
