It was not a good day for the Tigers on September 12. Aside from losing the first game of their series against the Marlins, two notable Tigers left the contest with injuries. Javier Baez left early thanks to an errant foul ball, while Tarik Skubal suffered a left side injury.

Skubal leaves game

The big news of the day was Tarik Skubal leaving his start on September 12. Skubal left after grabbing his left side after what would be his last pitch of the day. He pitched just 3.1 IP with four earned runs allowed.

Via the Tigers PR X account, the team stated that he was dealing with left side tightness.

Skubal wasn’t the only one to exit early. Javier Baez left in the second inning after fouling a ball off his face.

Rogers dealing with toe injury

Orioles pitcher Trevor Rogers left his start on September 12 with left toe discomfort, per the team.

Rogers pitched well overall, as he struck out six over five and gave up one unearned run.

Alvarado on IL

Jose Alvarado‘s 2025 season is effectively over. The Phillies placed Alvarado on the 15-day IL with a left elbow strain, retroactive to September 11.

Alvarado is not eligible for the playoffs thanks to his PED suspension.

Rehab assignments

Orioles infielder Jordan Westburg went 0-3 with a strikeout for Norfolk (AAA).

Anthony Santander, as the DH for Buffalo (AAA), went 0-2 with two walks.

Nolan Arenado went 1-3 with a strikeout and run scored for Springfield (AA). Arenado played the first six innings.

Rangers reliever Danny Coulombe threw a scoreless inning for Frisco (AA).

Other injury news

Angels catcher Travis d’Arnaud was placed on the 7-day concussion IL.

Astros pitcher Lance McCullers Jr. landed on the IL with right hand soreness. It’s the fourth time that McCullers Jr. has been on the injured list this season.

Also placed on the IL were Brennan Bernardino (left lat strain), Daysbel Hernandez (shoulder inflammation), Sawyer Gipson-Long (neck stiffness), and Justin Topa (left oblique strain).

Reid Detmers (Angels) and Luis Garcia (Astros) were transferred to the 60-day IL.

Brendan Donovan and John King (Cardinals), Jose Urquidy (Tigers), Justin Lawrence (Pirates), and Tyler O’Neill (Orioles) were activated off the injured list.
