Two NL West teams saw their starting third basemen head to the injured list on August 15. It was a part of a busy day on the injury front, one that included an update on Josh Hader and several rookies heading to the injured list.
Hader to miss at least three weeks
Two days ago, the Astros placed closer Josh Hader on the injured list with a shoulder strain. On the 15th, the team gave an update on his potential return.
The team stated that Hader won’t throw for three weeks. From that point, he’ll be re-evaluated and the Astros will determine next steps.
Muncy back on IL
The Dodgers placed infielder Max Muncy on the 10-day IL with a right oblique strain. It’s retroactive to August 13.
Muncy came back from the injured list — he spent a month on it with a bone bruise — in early August and hit well. The veteran infielder hit .348 with four home runs and nine RBI thus far in August.
Duran leaves game
Phillies reliever Jhoan Duran, acquired two weeks ago, left the team’s game against the Nationals after taking a hit ball off his right ankle.
Duran left the field on a bullpen cart. He will get X-rays, per manager Rob Thomson.
Chapman re-joins injured list
The Dodgers weren’t the only NL West team to lose their regular third baseman to the injured list.
Matt Chapman was placed on the IL with right hand inflammation, retroactive to August 13. It’s the same injury that kept him out for the last half of June.
Rehab assignments
Bllue Jays pitcher Shane Bieber threw seven scoreless innings (90 pitches) for Buffalo (AAA) on the 15th. Bieber topped out at 94 MPH and averaged 93 MPH.
In that same game, George Springer went 1-3 with a home run.
Guardians pitcher John Means went 2.2 innings (38 pitches) for Lake County (A+). Means struck out three.
Astros pitcher Lance McCullers Jr. went five innings (80 pitches) for Sugar Land (AAA). McCullers. Jr struck out five and topped out at 92 MPH.
Other injury news
Mariners pitcher Logan Evans was placed on the 15-day IL with right elbow inflammation.
Reds rookie pitcher Chase Burns was also placed on the IL. He’s dealing with a Grade 1 right flexor strain.
Ronald Acuna Jr. (Braves), Jacob Misiorowski (Brewers), Luke Raley (Mariners), and Ryan Ritter (Rockies) were activated off the injured list.
