The Mets’ bullpen has had its ups and downs this month, as Reed Garrett, as well as midseason acquisition Ryan Helsley, have had their troubles. The former landed on the injured list with an elbow injury on August 25, one of several injury-related moves made that day. However, their division rival Atlanta will get some good news this coming weekend.

Garrett on IL

The Mets placed reliever Reed Garrett on the 15-day IL on August 25 with right elbow inflammation. It’s retroactive to August 23.

Garrett has been pitching through elbow discomfort through August, a month that saw the right-hander concede eight runs (three HR) over nine innings. An MRI revealed no ligament damage.

In other related news for the Mets, Francisco Alvarez took batting practice on the 25th. Additionally, Frankie Montas was shifted to the 60-day IL.

Sale coming back this weekend

The Braves plan to bring Chris Sale back into the rotation this weekend against the Phillies.

Sale made three rehab outings with Gwinnett (AAA) before what will be his return to the Majors. The left-hander, who missed two months of the season, struck out 11 over 10.2 IP and hit as high as 97 MPH.

Semien done for 2025

Marcus Semien‘s 2025 season is over.

The Rangers infielder was diagnosed with a fracture in his left foot, as well as a Lisfranc ligament sprain. He’ll end the 2025 campaign with a .364 slugging percentage, the lowest of his career in a single season.

Other injury news

The Athletics will place left-hander Jacob Lopez on the 15-day IL with a Grade 1 flexor strain.

Brewers reliever Grant Anderson went on the IL with right ankle tendinitis.

Enrique Hernandez (Dodgers) and Michael Massey (Royals) were activated off the injured list.
